He's in the line up because the core is not capable of leading.
There's really not much more to this question than that.
And how is he leading? We have Bogo and Muzz who’ve actually won a cup. We have Foligno, we have Brodie, Simmonds, Spezz, Here’s the bottom line, to lead you have to bring something to the table on the ice, this in the room stuff, whatever if you can’t show something in a game. Don’t get me wrong I’m sure the guys love and respect him, but just like Marleau (and Joe is way worse at the moment) it doesn’t matter without some chops. He's in the line up because the core is not capable of leading.

Agreed hope they come out big tonight.Like you... I actually have no clue whether people listen to him or not.
That's on Keefe. If he reads the room and thinks that Thornton is a settling influence, then he will play.
If he doesn't, he shouldn't.
I'm saying that Thornton has the possibility of being that influence. From what I've read, he seems to be taking time with the younger players so I ASSUME that he is.
Meh... whatever it takes to win.
It's clear that this core has no clue how to motivate anyone. Whomever it is down the bench, someone needs to settle 16 and 34 so that they can produce.
Hopefully we see a big game from them tonight
Yes yes yes yes.Not that Joe is the reason we lost, but his continued presence in the lineup when it was obvious months ago that he was completely cooked symbolizes everything that is wrong with the organization
Like Marleau before him, he became the cool older bro to M and M
And, as a result, a washed up player was given unearned opportunity after unearned opportunity in critical situations because, you know, feelings could be hurt in the room
Dubas and Keefe should both be canned for allowing feelings to triumph over icing the best lineup possible
