Brandon Sutter sucks ass at even strength but he's a really good PK'er. Same with.......ugh......Craig Adams.

This is simple... they are preoccupied on offense when not on the PK. Its like with fluery... when the team is playing strong D and not taking undue risks on O in front of him, he has fantastic seasons... once the team starts pressing for O and neglecting the D they look horrid. they confuse having two of the best offensive threats in the league for being stacked on O too often.

On the Pk everyone is just trying to play D and not score so the passing lanes are clogged up in front of Fluery and he can play less side to side hectic frantic hockey.

Not sure if he was in charge starting in 2009-2013 but Tony Granato has turned the Wings PK around. At one point we were tops and then had a bad stretch after Howard went down. They seem to be back though. I would give the Wings PK credit partially to him obviously the players play a big part but they are playing a system. .

I think its probably Craig Adams being an Anchor for them in the PK, they got studs like Scuderi, Martin & Despres with their long sticks. It also helps when great Coaches like Bylsma & Granato instilled that Structure on the PK system for their team. They're reaping the benefits from the combination of all that.

Everyone knows that the money you make is inversely proportional to your penalty killing abilities.

Craig Adams probably the second best penalty killer after Kovalchuk.

The above is sarcasm Fleury does well on the pk. Good system quite a few players that can play pk so they are always 'fresh'

they also only focus on just killing the penalty by only using the guys that produce approximately nothing offensively. every year, they're near the top of the league in pk % but damn near the bottom in SHG. (surprised to see they actually have 4 this year though)

on the flip side, take a team like the islanders who have the league's worst pk % but they lead the league in SHG. perhaps they take bigger risks with the personnel they use while the penguins play it safe.

Malkin use to PK. Shame he doesn't. I bet the pk would get a few extra goals and keep the Power play units more honest.

Islanders PK is more a systemic issue as well as a personnel one. Just overall poor coaching. They're actually not aggressive enough on the PK, no one pressures the point men, and to compound the issue they collapse into a tight box so the point men move to the high circles.

Give players on this level that much space and time, and you end up with the worst PK in the league.

The worst part is, the Isles have so many better defensive forwards than Pittsburgh, hell better than most of the teams in the league even, with Nielsen, Kulemin, Cizikas, etc. They should be no where near the worse on PK. Coaching staff screwing up big time.

Sounds like a case for Dan Bylsma
first step sign Crag Adams
