Why is Pittsburgh's PK Always So Good?

they also only focus on just killing the penalty by only using the guys that produce approximately nothing offensively. every year, they're near the top of the league in pk % but damn near the bottom in SHG. (surprised to see they actually have 4 this year though)

on the flip side, take a team like the islanders who have the league's worst pk % but they lead the league in SHG. perhaps they take bigger risks with the personnel they use while the penguins play it safe.
Might be worth to take a look at the actual numbers of the Penguins:

2006: 13 SHG (t-8th)
2007: 14 SHG (t-5th)
2008: 6 SHG (t-20th)
2009: 7 SHG (t-16th)
2010: 8 SHG (t-5th)
2011: 13 SHG (t-2nd)
2012: 11 SHG (3rd)
