why is it Czechia now ?

Why? There are places like Bohemia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Carpathia, Ruthenia around, why not Czechia? I love it, especially because in Finnish and Swedish and most european languages already use the short form.
Czech Republic sounds like a name that a sophisticated, interesting drunk would coin. Czechia sounds like something an English soccer hooligan would invent while attacking his own mother.

I think it just reminds people of something eastern, communism and stuff like that. Romania, Bulgaria, Russia etc. which always doesn't give you the best picture when you think about them.

Yes, just like Scandinavia and Australia :sarcasm:

Bohemia (Cechy) is just part of the country, other parts are Moravia and Silesia (or that small part of it that is not in Poland). Czechia sounding similar to Cechy (czech name for Bohemia) is why it is refused by many people especially in Moravia. Bohemia would be even worse.
Then it should be called Bohmoresia.

My brother in christ, do not google the origins of the name "America".

Place names hurt my brain and I'm British.

To be human huh.

EDIT: Here’s a couple of British gentlemen to Britsplain how much America hurts my brain.

I had a Czechia girlfriend. I used to call her my Czech-mate. She didn't like that. Then she Czech'd out.

I absolutely prefer Czech Republic to the concocted name but I just realised that when I have commented international tournaments I have said things like Finland, Sweden and the Czechs look strong.

Subconsciously so. I guess saying Czech Republic sounds over formal when as the new name sounds just stupid.

Having said that normally if a country wishes to be called by a new name it is very rude to refuse to call it by that name but I'll never say Myanmar, for example, it's Burma for me or if New Zealand wants to be called by the indigenous name I think a lot of people couldn't even spell it.
