Why is Crosby considered a clutch SCF performer?

Yeah I was actually tempted to include Datsyuk in that comparison as well because he did also have 3 finals appearances, but it felt super disingenuous to include him with his 2002 stat line as a bottom-6 forward. It just wasn't an apples to apples comparison so I thought it was unfair to include him.

But even taking that out, Zetterberg was downright dominant in both 2008 and 2009 and I don't think Datsyuk even matched that when healthy in 2008.
If we are talking about just the 2008 final.
Zetterberg had 6 points and Datsyuk 4 points. Which 2 of Zetterberg points came in the first two matches which were won 4-0 and 3-0.
Both had 4 points each in the last 4 games.
But, Zetterberg had been assigned man marking on Crosby and overall that made the difference. He also had 4 more points in the playoffs (27 vs. 23 in 22 matches), though some were part of EN goals and some might be when both was on the ice, idk about that from memory. He had more game winning goals as well though.

That's why 2008 on paper could be seen as, idk I don't think underwhelming is the right word, cause Datsyuk was never bad. He just didn't get out is full potential regarding offensive production. Frankly in either of the two years.

IMHO, it's a team sport .... meaning that a player could literally have 0 points and 0 assists and still be considered a "clutch player" if he consistently elevated everybody else's play when things were dicey such that his team went on to ultimate victory.

Crosby cleared this bar easily.

Many high-stat players ultimately could not.

I can’t say I’ve noticed fans or the media praising specifically his finals performances. Any examples OP?

Playoffs generally yes, but I don’t think that’s particularly controversial.

Yes, sorry Toews. Corrected.

This is true, as well as without some of those role players they had over the years they wouldn't have won all of them either.
You're not wrong then. Toews was the best forward in 2010 and the best Canadian forward across the 2010 and 2014 victories.

Missing the point. Yea he won cups but his stats in those finals aren’t anything special and 2/3 are shit.

Because "stats" don't tell the whole story... hence why you have to watch, and understand what your watching, in order to offer an assessment of any value.

If you don't understand the impact Crosby has had on his cup (& olympic) winning teams, you should probably take the time to go watch more hockey and get some tips from a more knowledgeable observer about what to look for

You do know what the definition of clutch is, yes?

Here, this is from Oxford;

(in sport) denoting or occurring in a critical situation in which the outcome of a game or competition is at stake.

Helps, hope it does.
Cool story, Oxford.

If you're following along in your thread at home, you'll notice that the OP made it only about points, and there has been very little pushback* (i.e. my point).

*at least, at the time of my posting.

Given his goals per minute in the Caps 2018 SCF Devonte Smith-Pelly was a far more clutch SCF performer than that mediocre Crosby character. I like judging clutch performances on two stat categories, btw.
Don't disrespect DSP's 2018 run, unironically one of the most "clutch" ones out there and certainly more clutch than any of Crosby's

No disrespect at all. DSP had me jumping out of my chair a lot. I was a fan of his before his SCF heroics.

You don't actually think he means that the NHL in 09, 16, and 17 were equivalent to the DPE, right?

Because I suspect that McDavid would have been able to score in the NHL in 2016 and 2017 as well. Given how he won the scoring title in 2017 and whatnot. And the scoring wasn't low in 09.
Good thing we can look up how well McDavid scored in the 2017 playoffs. Oh wait, he had 2 5v5 points in 13 games and was outscored by Mark Letestu on his own team.

Is this also an attempt to show that 2017 was like the DPE? Or can I safely ignore it as just another silly attempt to make it look like McDavid isn't a good playoff performer?

Because as I said after the 2022 playoffs, and 2023 playoffs, and 2024 playoffs, I thought we had moved past that nonsense.

Yes we can!
In 198 games less, he is 4 points behind.
