Yeah I was actually tempted to include Datsyuk in that comparison as well because he did also have 3 finals appearances, but it felt super disingenuous to include him with his 2002 stat line as a bottom-6 forward. It just wasn't an apples to apples comparison so I thought it was unfair to include him.
But even taking that out, Zetterberg was downright dominant in both 2008 and 2009 and I don't think Datsyuk even matched that when healthy in 2008.
If we are talking about just the 2008 final.
Zetterberg had 6 points and Datsyuk 4 points. Which 2 of Zetterberg points came in the first two matches which were won 4-0 and 3-0.
Both had 4 points each in the last 4 games.
But, Zetterberg had been assigned man marking on Crosby and overall that made the difference. He also had 4 more points in the playoffs (27 vs. 23 in 22 matches), though some were part of EN goals and some might be when both was on the ice, idk about that from memory. He had more game winning goals as well though.
That's why 2008 on paper could be seen as, idk I don't think underwhelming is the right word, cause Datsyuk was never bad. He just didn't get out is full potential regarding offensive production. Frankly in either of the two years.
