Why don’t people like Mackinnon?

The greater you are the more you get haters. McDavid has them, Matthews certainly does, Crosby/Ovechkin always have, etc

so yes - MacKinnon has some haters too. But overall, among players of his caliber, I'd say he's very well liked, moreso than others.

McDavid/Crosby/Matthews all have way more haters, for example.

Crosby totally carries MacKinnon on his back for the entirety of the whole Tim Hortons canon of commercials. Crosby's a natural and MacKinnon an incapable sidekick who just drags him down.

My Best-Carey
Really? I think Mack is way more of a natural in those commercials, especially the newest one…not sure what it is about that one but I laugh every time

Mackinnon the hockey player is a sight to see. One of the most entertaining players to watch. He's intense and he's a dog, it's impressive. So yeah, I like the player.

But the man? I mean, it's not fair, I don't know the guy personally, but he seems obnoxious AF, especially as a teammate. He looks mad a lot or annoyed with his teammates, he looks disappointed. He asks a lot from his teammates forgetting that they are not as good as him. His intensity annoys me, I don't like those types of people. For example, I watched the documentary "The Last Dance" and honestly, I loved it, but I like MJ even less. What an asshole. But maybe that is what is needed to win and more power to them. I just personally don't like that.
This is the vibe I get too.

Mack always seems pissed off when someone makes a mistake. I think what turns off a lot of people regarding him is he holds everyone accountable…but is the same allowed towards him? Just my opinion but I don’t think any player, maybe outside of Landeskog, would have the balls to snap back at Mack if he made a mistake on a play.

It’s hard to like those who have the mindset of ‘rules for thee, but not for me’.

I'm pretty sure that MacKinnon is already painfully aware of the mistake he made and doesn't really need anyone else pointing it out to him. I'd also guess that he holds himself to much higher standards than anyone else ever could.

Mackinnon is the best role model for aspiring athletes... no.1 pick that got doubted and he did everything he could to improve to the level he is at, he changed his diet went to a sports psychologist and doubled his off ice regimen and became undoubtedly one of the best talents not only that but he took it upon himself to be a captain and demanded better from his teammates off the ice and won a cup because of it with an mvp and multiple top 3 finishes the amount of work that he did when no cameras were on and nobody watching is what made him great and that is extremely likable if you want better from yourself put in the work and make no excuses that is inspirational and absolutely needs to be the message to younger generations... same thing with McDavid and how he recovered from his injury these guys dug deep and defied the optics

Can you imagine being a teammate of someone who only berates others for their mistakes but you nor any of your peers are allowed to do the same? Pretty toxic environment imo. Easily unlikable characteristic.

The part about 'doesn't really need anyone else pointing it out to him' seems a bit unfair, no?

I'm sure hes a swell guy and all but I think the hard ass and grumpy attitude turns people off and wears them down. Much like a coach, eventually you just tune them out.

Every player is coached differently and some people need scolding to get their best and others need coddling. What do you think pro athletes mostly are comprised of? This isnt the WNBA.

Nobody is making a comparison to the WNBA or any other league. It's just you man. Besides, we know where you stand with anything related to the Avs.

I'm just saying I'm in agreement with Thierry regarding why Mack may be disliked. I don't know Mack myself but I can see parts of him that could rub people the wrong way. Nothing more, nothing less.

It's fine being uber competitive, but I think ranting on your own teammates or looking disappointed every time wears thin eventually. Like I said, its the same for coaches. It goes for really any player. Mack is just the obvious and hes also the topic of discussion here.

Can respect the fire in Mack...but also can dislike other aspects of him. Doesn't have to be one or the other.

It seems like a lot of people root against Colorado, and Nate in particular. Dallas.. really isn’t likable either, yet I’ve been rooting for them this series.

For me, it’s this odd feeling that Nate and Cale are like the jockiest of jocks, and playing with ‘em would absolutely suck. Like they’re those Globogym bros from Dodgeball. I’m aware this is a ridiculous reason to dislike a team, but.. there it is. Also, there was a whole coverup with Val and that was messed up, but I feel like that’s not what drives the dislike. I think since they won the cup Nate’s just kinda a decent heel, and his demeanor and the silly chickpea shit just fuels it. I know, kinda a weird take, but again- feels like more people are rooting for Dallas, and no one friggin roots for Dallas (Colorado and Dallas fans exempted).

Anywho, thoughts?
I see more Nate nut hugging than anything else so I'm not sure what you're talking about

Right and Im saying more often than not, I bet that is a quality grown adult men look for in a teammate vs someone who is the opposite. They prefer criticism and constantly improving vs complacency.
