Why don’t people like Mackinnon?

This thread just proves again that 90% of the people that don’t like Mack are oilers fans that get extremely offended when anyone is compared to McDavid lol
Uhh no Oilers are hating on Mack in this thread. The hate he gets comes from people who don’t think he deserved 2024 Hart over Kuch, and people who thought he’d win another Hart this season.

I think people get annoyed/slightly offended intellectually when people award him due in part to nationality and call him the best player in the world when he is clearly not the absolute, no-doubt best, even though he is close enough to the being best for others not to care.

Watch the whole shift. He didn't score the goal, but he made it happen.
The defender tried to clear the puck, but it deflected off his teammate's face and into their own net. If the defenseman hadn't panicked there, it wouldn't have led to a goal. Mackinnon wasn't dangerous in that match so he should have just kept his cool there.

My son and I got to meet MacKinnon at an Avs/Special Olympics floor hockey event, and he just didn't feel comfortable having to interact with people. He was very nice and the kids all had a blast, but I don't remember seeing him joke with any of the kids or screw around with them at all, it was all business. To be fair, this was in February of 2017, and the Avs were in the middle of the 48 point dumpster fire of a season, so he had some other things going on in his life, but he just didn't seem like the kind of guy I'd want to hang out with on a regular basis. Based on that one meeting and everything else I've seen of him as an Avs fan, I don't know if he actually knows how to have fun off the ice.

For comparison, the next year, Nikita Zadorov was the Avs player at the event, and the vibe was totally different. He spent most of the time screwing around with the kids, and the organizers had to repeatedly remind him that he was supposed to be doing things, and not just having fun.

Landeskog strikes me as more of a jock than Makar. Makar's got that blushy babyface going on, that's not classic jock material.

It's because NHL has decided to make him their darling for no other reason than the fact that they feel bad that he's very clearly always going to be at least 1-2 pegs below McDavid.

He's the NHL's charity case for sympathy.
This makes no sense. Leagues market stars for no other plausible reason besides that they they feel bad for them all the time. It’s extremely commonplace. Why would this be any different?

Mackinnon the hockey player is a sight to see. One of the most entertaining players to watch. He's intense and he's a dog, it's impressive. So yeah, I like the player.

But the man? I mean, it's not fair, I don't know the guy personally, but he seems obnoxious AF, especially as a teammate. He looks mad a lot or annoyed with his teammates, he looks disappointed. He asks a lot from his teammates forgetting that they are not as good as him. His intensity annoys me, I don't like those types of people. For example, I watched the documentary "The Last Dance" and honestly, I loved it, but I like MJ even less. What an asshole. But maybe that is what is needed to win and more power to them. I just personally don't like that.

I thought similarly, but in the context of a competitive sport and heat of the moment I could see why that comes out? Like NFL coach Edwards once said, "you play to win the game" and winning teams tend to need that alpha dog type like Nate, Jonathan Toews or Kobe (RIP) who would take the reins and make things happen, albeit that sometimes they come with a serious demeanor. Unfortunately not every athlete has the physical or talent giftings to be able to not be too serious and still win, like an Ovie, Pat Kane or Shaq (no disrespect to any of them and their attitudes towards the sport, but there's a difference between these two groups for sure, when the latter can drink sodas, party and relatively clown around and still be legends). I've played with types like that too in different sports, and while you might not like them, I think they at least warrant respect for their fire.

I don’t know why but I also get a feeling that Mac looks down on lesser players . And I hate the way he overplays with the puck too . He plays a style that will age very poorly . Once his physical dominance slows down , so will his production greatly . He seems to only have one speed and that’s all-out . Once that isn’t enough to overpower oppositions anymore , he will not be elite or anywhere near it . Players like Kane / Kuch / Drais etc still can be effective even at slower speeds and playstyle where Mac ‘S game is pure speed / power . After that’s gone , so will his elite production be .
No doubt he is ultra talented but he reminds me of how Subban over handled the puck and skated around 100mph all the time when it wasn’t always needed . Like his brain can’t keep up with his legs and hands . Isn’t smooth or effortless looking at all .

This guy is proving you don't need to be like that to be the best in the world.

It seems like a lot of people root against Colorado, and Nate in particular. Dallas.. really isn’t likable either, yet I’ve been rooting for them this series.

For me, it’s this odd feeling that Nate and Cale are like the jockiest of jocks, and playing with ‘em would absolutely suck. Like they’re those Globogym bros from Dodgeball. I’m aware this is a ridiculous reason to dislike a team, but.. there it is. Also, there was a whole coverup with Val and that was messed up, but I feel like that’s not what drives the dislike. I think since they won the cup Nate’s just kinda a decent heel, and his demeanor and the silly chickpea shit just fuels it. I know, kinda a weird take, but again- feels like more people are rooting for Dallas, and no one friggin roots for Dallas (Colorado and Dallas fans exempted).

Anywho, thoughts?
This is random as all hell. In regards to players, he isn't known as being disliked. I can pick 1000+ players more disliked.

Maybe you are reading to many Dallas fans posts or something.

Literally anyone here can take any player, from their respective team, even the most liked, and create what you created here.

I'm thinking about doing a Suzuki is disliked thread next...
