I've been a fan since I was a lad and my grandfather had HNIC on every Saturday night after dinner, while my parents, my grandmother and aunts watched the Love Boat upstairs. I wouldn't call it an addiction but I'm a "true blue Leaf fanatic"

Why do I watch the Leafs? After 56 years of disappointment since the last cup win I witnessed. I dont know why I still watch the Leafs. Habit? Boredom? Masochist possibly? Just when I think I'm out after another disappointing year. They pull me back in when a new season starts, I guess I'm a Masochist. Thanks Leafs it took 56 years to finally realise that.

Local team from when my family moved to Canada. I love the Leafs.

None of the poll options really matched me. I wouldn't call it an addiction. I actually miss quite a few games. But I'll also happily watch a CHI/STL game if that's whose playing when I happen to have the time to watch. Favourite sport, favourite team.

Informal surveys taken over the yrs indicated that ~ 80 percent of Leafs fans don’t watch the playoffs.
Rogers’ ratings has taken a hit when the largest market tunes out after the first round.
They must be asking the wrong people

To me, options 2 & 3 are kind of unusual/irrelevant to "watching the Leafs", esp #3 as you saying that you don't the Leafs in particular...... why would you watch the Leafs as opposed to watching whatever other teams might be playing?

Regional restrictions might limit who you can watch.

Everyone I know watches other teams play.

Everyone who watches a Leafs game watches other teams play :P .. it takes two ...:)

I got drawn in, in a similar way, a buddy of mine who moved to our home town, family of 4 all played hockey, 3 brothers , 1 sister, 1 father who was a hockey coach had HNIC on every Saturday night, before that I played but didn't watch. The Leafs in '93 got me hooked on this team, it became a family tradition after that, a habit TBH.

It's not unusual for fans of a team turn to a different sport when they are eliminated from the playoffs. Once Montreal beat out Toronto, couldn't tell you who they played after us. I watch a lot of other teams in the regular season but I get pretty salty after the Leafs lose the deciding game, in Leafy fashion, I have no desire to watch less talented teams play in the 2nd round. Makes me more salty.

Added the option for you.

I didn't think it was an option?

I added this option.

Well then, the last option in the poll is just for you ... :)
All jokes aside though, There have been so many times in my 32 years of life where I or my wife has questioned myself, why do you do this to yourself? Why do you cheer for this team that constantly disappoints???

I genuinely don't know why, all I know is that I'll never cheer for another team. It may not make sense to anyone other then fellow Leaf fans.

Although, I can tell my wife is starting to cheer for the buds now. Which was a tough sell job to a Vancouverite. I guess if she was dumb enough to marry me she is clearly dumb enough to cheer for the Leafs as well...

My dad did basically. I originally watched, because of him. Then became obsessed as a kid and now catch what I can between working 2 jobs. I definitely won't miss a saturday game. Something to look forward to I guess.

Absolutely true

That said I have a couple of other teams I enjoy watching in the NHL, and I'll watch their games as well as the Leafs, I also have a share in some Senator seasons tix, unlike many here I'm retired and have lots of time to put into my favourite sport. Once all my teams are out, the BlueJays, Dodgers and Cardinals will get my attention.

I've been cheering for the Leafs since I used to listen to them in the radio with my grandmother (Foster Hewitt is still the best).

I'm addicted to hockey. At 70 I still play one to three times a week (got a league game tonight), and watch as many games as I can.

Hugely a Leafs fan, but if they're not playing I'll find another game to watch, and some team to cheer for. I don't understand the "Leafs are out so I'll stop watching" attitude, or the "if not Toronto, no other Canadian team should win the Cup" viewpoint.

I have definite preferences. Leafs first, always and by a lot, then other Canadian teams (Ottawa last), other O6 teams (except Boston), then teams with ex-Leafs, then anyone else, then minor leagues and European leagues, then maybe Boston, but only if they're playing against the Russians.

Sports fanatic.

Love the Jays, Leafs, Bills, Oklahoma Sooners.

Spend all my time helping kids get drafted into pro baseball or college scholarships so when it's Oct-Apr I spend any time off watching sports.

Grew up a Leaf fan and continue the love.

Dad is a Wings fan, Mom a Habs fan so I love the bantering.

GLG

I like to watch guys like Laugherty display dominating tenacity that has the bottom 6 of all other teams trembling
