Why Did The Kings Trade Cammalleri

Bumped, because I didn't want to start a new thread, but wanted to get the hindsight of kings fans. Studying key decision points by DL.

Hey, no worries. I think it's odd that after all these years since Cammy was traded that someone wants to talk about him, as if his departure was in any way a factor in our success, but hey, to each their own I suppose.

FWIW, I use to think Cammy had lot more value, but he's basically a specialist, purely one dimensional. While true we could have gotten a lot more in return, but it's not a big loss either.

Whenever you heard Lombardi speak about the future, mc's name never came up. He also said there was a difference between players scoring 30 goals on a losing than on a winning team. Plus, whenever dt tried to sign him on a long term contract, mc refused & opted to sign his qo. When Lombardi took over he had had enough of his shenanigans & moved him along.

I was one of the people against trading him because at the time the kings had no one to replace his production. I'm glad I'm eating crow today. When looking back, he was a glfg after all. I'm glad Lombardi recognized it because you can't win with those type of players. He chased the money then & he chased it again with his signing in nj.

Cammy was all about the money, which I never blame a player for. He didn't fit the "culture" Dean was trying to cultivate.

Great, then read them, but why do you need to bump? :shakehead

****in annoying!

I love them. Great to see how posters thought and how things actually turned out. If you don't like them don't click on them or move along quickly. It only takes 10 seconds of your day.

I'm not going to dispute that MC wasn't a player who chased money or was a PA guy first, those are actually pretty true statements.

But the reason he left was because DL didn't want to pay him $25m over five years, which is fine, there were plenty of UFA's that the Kings were going to be targeting the next year including Drury, Gaborik and Briere and DL felt better about potentially paying those guys than he did about paying MC, especially 6 years ago when the cap was significantly smaller.

But lets spare the culture BS, lets not forget that exactly a year after trading MC that he gave up assets to bring in the very definition of a me first, money chasing mercenary who ultimately did cause lockerroom troubles in Ryan Smyth, so culture mattered in June 2008 but it didn't matter in June 2009? I don't think so.

If MC had been a lockerroom cancer as some suggest the Kings wouldn't have considered picking him up at this years deadline.

Hes a cancer, money grubbing, short, good for nothing, pp only player. Did i do that right?

i find it funny people still have a strong dislike for him. Kings fans making lame short jokes on the free agent board years after hes been traded.

Agreed. He did not fit in the the team "model" that DL was trying to build. Way more concerned with himself and his goals and being a part of the NHLPA

And what a model he built. We're talking 6 foot tall , runway strutin' , confidence for days type model. And she LOVES to play for the Kings!
