Why are the Devils 21-4-1? insane easy schedule, makes perfect sense.

Easily the most entertaining team to watch when my team isn’t playing.

They are a lot of fun to watch right now.

I've gotta say, i very much enjoy that the "identity" of this current Devils team is so completely antithetical to everything that has previously been associated with the Franchise.

These young devils are something.

Even down 2 goals early in back to back games they just find a way.

Edit: you’re welcome Nashville

Devils played conservative at the end of the game and paid the price. Hopefully they learn from it - part of what has made them so successful this season is not taking their foot off the gas.
Nashville tried to sit on the 2 goal lead and allowed NJ back in before stepping up and forcing OT for the win.

See how that works?

The Devils have the worst 1st period all the time and then blitz teams in the 2nd/3rd usually. It's a pretty typical flow of their games to get stronger as the game goes on and pile on. It was a huge mistake to just casually pass the puck around on that late power play, and they looked asleep at the end of the game and start of OT.

And Nashville has continuously tried to sit on leads this season, allowing teams to come back. 5 times we've blown leads this season and come away with losses.

In fact, you guys have lead most in the NHL.

Devils are looking fantastic, and this is great experience for their youngsters. Our latest dynasty started by management recognizing they had lightning in a bottle, and using smart trades to add to a young core. I could see a smart TDL addition take the Devs on a deep run this year.

Okay? I’m not sure what you’re arguing about right now, to be honest. They aren’t always losing after their terrible firsts - this team can score and Vanacek has been good. That’s doesn’t mean it hasn’t been a chronic issue.

Bad first periods and a middling power play have been their biggest issues over the season so far. They controlled most of the play from the second period on and got gut-punched with 8 seconds left last night. Hopefully that teaches them an important lesson.

They are on the downtrend, i said this a while ago.
Injuries will add up, swagger will diminish, players not overachieving anymore

Be prepared for a rough stretch.

So, they're not going to continue on a 133 point pace?!?!?!?

When exactly did you say this considering they've picked up points now in 17 of their past 18 games.

Lots of fans focus on top 6F and top 4D but not many look at overall depth as value. Devils have a team playing for each other with good players at the top and bottom.

That's how they are doing what they are doing. Top heavy teams with stars and crap for depth is a trap!

I don't think you realize how bad they would have to be to miss at this point.

Last season, it took 100 points to make the playoffs in the East (which was an unusual year with with a 16 point gap between 8th and 9th place) and 97 points in the West.

The Devils currently have the most points in the league and the 2nd highest point percentage at .813.

For NJ to finish with "only" 100 points, they need to have a .526 point percentage the rest of the season. League average is .554 points. So, the Devils would have to go from the 2nd best team in the league to a below average team the rest of the way in order to miss the playoffs. Just being league average gets them to 103 points.

I haven’t heard of half the guys on their team and I watch a ton of hockey and all of them are contributing
