Why are the Devils 21-4-1? insane easy schedule, makes perfect sense.

Looking at their roster, coach, coaching staff, GM. The fact that they were trash last season with pretty much the same roster and staff 27-46-9 | 248-307 (-59)

versus

11-3-0 | 51-36 (+15)

Unreal season, 100% unsustainable.
- I just hope that they wont end up like Buffalo Sabres, when they led the league early of that season

Hot streak for now. Let's see if it becomes more.

A team can improve, ya know.

They're a good young team... Good young teams improve.

Not that hard a concept to understand tbh.

EDIT: Its also far from "Pretty much the same team", Vanecek is a significant add that's played like an actual starting goalie this year(Which was one of New Jerseys biggest problems last year), and Marino is a legit Top 4D and a damn good one at that, especially so far this year for New Jersey.

Those two players have had significant impacts... Combined with basically all of the core forwards being 23 or under... Again, not hard to figure out why they're playing really well

if you paid attention youd know NJ was good last year and had seven goalies

Now Blackwood and Vanecek are both down. The Devils are top-3 Metro good and goaltending has been the only thing holding them back.

To say it isnt sustainable or doesnt make sense just means you dont know

I'm not a Devils fan but I have to say this isn't one of your better threads. The Devils would have been midpack last year if they had average goaltending. It's been a couple years since they were trash.

And they've really been wrecking teams this year. They could be 13-1. Young players stepping up, not that complicated.

Maybe you haven't been paying attention... at the team's roster?

This, they also are healthy at the moment. And they also added two new coaches that have brought some new ideas to the table with ruff. The way their offense plays is similar to Floridas when Brunnette was coaching them and he was brought in.

Last year they had solid metrics and could score. Their goaltending is what killed them. They went though 7 goalies last year as well.

I wouldn't call them healthy lol, no Palat + Vanecek might be concussed + Blackwood. Although Blackwood might be an addition by subtraction at this point.

way to small a forward group for my liking. see how they fare in months 5 and 6

This isn't a team in its prime trying to win a cup, it's a team with a super young core trying to make the playoffs. I can assure you if this is the problem with them this year, it'll get looked at in the offseason.

Unsustainable? Yeah I think so, they likely won't be a 130 point team by the end of the year. But if their goaltending holds up and the key guys like Hischier and Bratt stay healthy then they should easily be a playoff team. The analytics suggest that if anything that 11-3 record is underselling what they're doing. Hockey is a complex game so anything can happen but yes, them being good makes all the sense if you look even a little bit beyond the raw numbers.
