He'd probably do very well as would Draisaitl. However, we would never know, because, if swapped with Draisaitl, Matthews would have played with two of Kailer Yamamoto, Warren Foegele, Ryan McLeod, Tobias Rieder, Alex Chaisson, Jesse Puljujarvi, Dominik Kahun, and Ty Rattie. Meanwhile, Draisaitl would have one of Marner or Nylander.
McDavid scored 11 more points than Draisaitl, despite playing harder matchups and Draisaitl getting bumped to McDavid's wing and PP to help get him going.
The guy doesn't carry injuries well. He goes electric before injuries, and then limps along in the playoffs after getting injured. We finally saw the Oilers go deep enough to shine a spotlight on the issue. I think expecting Drai to play well through 4 rounds of a playoff series is a long shot at this point. McDavid on the other hand is much better at finding ways to be effective while injured, which is a hallmark of an all time great player.

He had hand and rib injuries. Bergeron carried the Bruins in game 7 on two broken ribs. Drai doesn't backcheck, and gets put in every position to succeed offensively next to the greatest talent we have seen since Gretzky. Kurri broke records too, this comes with the territory of being a good player on a team with a GOAT level talent. Drai's statline after game 6 in round 2 has been posted on here many times. Its pretty obvious he doesn't carry injuries well. Good player when healthy though. Just stop with the excuses for the guy not being as good as McDavid. McDavid played hurt and outperformed him.

Out of those 19 points, 8 came from being paired with McDavid to help him get going, and 5 were secondary assists. Despite getting plenty of power play time and playing alongside the GOAT, he still finished with a -1. He scored more goals in 5 games against the Kings than he did in the 19 games following his injury, largely because he struggles to play through injuries and benefits from playing with McDavid. Denying that seems strange. If you watched the games, it was clear he wasn’t at his best, often looking like a shadow of himself and being a defensive liability at times, which explains the -1.
