I've said it before and I will say it again, there are no morals in sports.

Perhaps there should be but there aren't.

If there were Evander Kane wouldn't be in the NHL.

Antonio Brown would have been out of the NFL about 5 years before he was.

Jon Jones wouldn't even be in the UFC, let alone world heavyweight champion.

Morals and Ethics don't exist in sports.

You can be a MASSIVE Piece of shit if You are successful.

Well, you can choose that viewpoint, I much prefer not to.

Also, Dale Tallon built those Chicago teams, not Bowman. So even on a sporting level, I don't see much merit in hiring him.

Why do ppl keep saying Treliving when Calgary won't let him outta his contract til July 1?

These are the same ppl who think they know what they're talking about. What a fan base

Who do you believe should be the next GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs? This is for discussion of what we should do going forward, not discussion of past GM's?

Some names I've seen mentioned. Pridham, Tulsky, Bowman, Treliving, Botterill, Brad Holland, Spezza, Ryan Hardy, Wickenheiser.....

My gut is telling me that when Shanahan started thinking about what a new look maple leafs could be, he had some names in mind. The most obvious ones would be Bowman and Boudreau.

I have a feeling this will happen fast either way. There’s no way Shanahan goes this way without having a pretty good idea at exactly what he’s going to do

If the nerds want Tulsky I'm out on him. Pridham can f*** off too.

For a rookie give me Sean Burke. For a vet I'd be happy with Lombardi or Trieliving

Brad Treliving?

In Calgary
Traded Matthew Tkachuk for Huberdeau and Weegar
Signed 29 year old Huberdeau who scored 56 points for 8 years 10.5 million.
Traded Sam Bennett for very little
Traded a 1st (Noah Dobson) and 2 seconds (Zach Bolduc and Ruslan Ishlakov) for Travis Hamonic
Signed James Neal for 6 mill 6 years
Signed Coleman for 6 years 4.9 million.
Signed Bouma, Raymond, Brouwer and Stone to all deals that needed to be bought out.

Not a guy I'd want....

It's got nothing to do with choosing that viewpoint, it's got to do watching sports for the last 22 years and seeing teams prove over, and over and over again that they value talent above all else, if that weren't true the guys I mentioned wouldn't currently have, or in the case of AB had jobs.

My personal viewpoint has nothing to do with it.

Hell baseball has an alleged murder in their hall of fame.

Based on Shannys presser comments, he's happy with the rest of the front office staff - so if it is an external hire it's going to have to be someone who can probably join the group rather than someone looking to reshape everything

Things went so well here the first time great idea. And look at all the success he has had since he left too
Burke didn’t have anything to work with when he was the GM . This time around he does.

You're missing: won more rounds than Kyle Dubas.

Tkachuk was leaving regardless. He got a massive return anyway. The Huberdeau contract doesn't look great but I'd bet he bounces back with a new coach. It's not like he's some scrub

Ok, but accepting it likely means perpetuating it and that shouldn't happen.

The same goes for Quenneville as well. But in the case of Bowman, he's not a good candidate anyway. He rode the coattails of Tallon who spent nearly a decade building them up, then he and his Dad hijacked the team.

Any GM who doesn't prostate themselves at the altar of analytics will be hated by the Dubas fan base.

I think an analytics-friendly guy is almost guaranteed and the right way to go. The entire infrastructure built by Shanahan is around this vision including the other staff members.

Bringing in someone with an alternative mindset won't work as he/she won't gel with the other pieces.

At this point most GMs are.

The ideal candidate would be an analytics friendly guy who could work with what the Leafs already have in place in the front office with a bit more experience than what the Leafs had prior. Could be a number of AGMs who fit that role
