I like the trade for all three teams.

Carolina gets an incredible finisher for their cup run and actually have the balance sheet to try to keep him beyond that. Rantanen's game translates very well to the playoffs and we can anticipate he should have great chemistry with Aho. It would have been a shame to see Carolina fold and go for the "same old" after not quite hitting on their Guentzel move.

For Colorado: Rantanen does tend (more and more) to have a disengaged playstyle, and I think that they rightfully assessed that they could not afford to extend that type of player for top dollar given their depth issues. Getting two NHL forwards does help with those depth issues in the short term, especially that the deal also gives more cap flexibility for future deals. Necas is a significant downgrade but not an absurd one.

Chicago's case is a lot simpler - they improve their return on Hall by retaining on Rantanen instead, and apparently they also save real money in the process. The opportunity cost is a bit worrisome as they only have one retention spot left, though.

Given that Carolina gets the best player in the deal in return for a previously disgruntled player, I think they win "more", but it's a good deal all around. Love to see it.

It's gonna be a win/win imo. Probably here are underrating how good Necas is as a skater, he's gonna flourish with MacK just based off of that. Rantanen is just what Carolina needs, my issue is whether or not he can be the Avs version of himself in Carolina's system but he looked good today v NYR and awesome v NYI. Hall will probably walk but I think he'll be an awesome playoff add. Wanted him back in NJ really bad as a deadline add.

If canes win the cup they win by default. Even if they don’t extend Rant

What if the Canes win a cup this year and then Avs win a cup in the next 2 years with Necas? Necas also allows them to be flexible within the next 2 years as well + future too if he extends there.

To be honest I see this trade as a winner for both of them. It’s one of those hockey trades where both sides can benefit from it.

I can only imagine Rantanen and his agent playing even more hardball in Carolina, they are gonna have to pay 15-16 million to keep Rantanen in a dump like Raleigh.

I mean it's basically the Finnish national team there.

Devils did this with Meier with the Swiss guard here in NJ, I wouldn't be surprised if Rantanen stays in Carolina for market value or a little lower.
