Pretty close, but hard not to give the definitive edge to the team that got the best player, in his prime, who is top 5 all time in playoff productivity.

But if they don't win a cup or re-sign him, hindsight won't be kind to the Canes.

Hawks get the obvious dunce cap.

Waaaaay to early but I’m feeling a bit of a lose-lose here. Avs lost an elite player, including an elite playoff player, who they know works on their team. They’ve undeniably got back a guy on a great contract, for an extra year, but one who’s looked pretty ordinary outside of the first ~25 games games of this season. Will depend on how they use that cap space.

Canes pick up a potentially very pricey rental who might not be quite as effective away from MacKinnon. Granted, the sentiment seems to be the Necas was on his way out eventually anyway so maybe a gamble like this is worthwhile.

Cap space isn’t as valuable now and Hall was a cap dump. If it was a double retained Hall for a 3rd at the deadline no one would be as mad.

Great asset management from both teams. Canes move a player they didn’t want long term and the Avs extend their window a bit.
Hall is a cap dump I agree and then any savings they agreed to cover some of the bill for rantanen. So it's a wash.

They took on cap and moved out cap. Carolina was the one over a barrel and they should have extracted much more to make that deal work for them.

I can only imagine Rantanen and his agent playing even more hardball in Carolina, they are gonna have to pay 15-16 million to keep Rantanen in a dump like Raleigh.

Blackhawks are only clear winner at this point. Dumping Hall to open a spot, and getting a higher 3rd than they would if they only retained on Hall. Cost them a few hundred thousand in cash and 1.5ish million more in cap space to upgrade from late 3rd to extremely early 3rd.

Going to have to see how Rants and Necas fit in on their respective teams, for how long, and at what cost.

I have visited Denver like 10 times because I love it there but I’d rather live in/near Raleigh.

Have you ever even been to either?

What are the major differences to you?

I grew up in Denver and lived outside Charlotte 2014-2020. Neither have the European draw, neither have the tax haven status, neither are huge markets. He's gonna cost extra for the Canes, not for the NYR/NYI/NJD, Florida teams, Seattle, Nashville, or Dallas.

Don't think Hawks are a real option. Vited for Avs because Necas is under contract while Rantanen is not. Canes will very likely gain much more throughout the current season but anything beyond that we'll have to wait and see.

I don't think Chicago really comes close to "winning" this trade, but I think Chicago were right to get rid of Hall. Hall is into his 15th season and has played all of 39 playoff games in his career. He's a career loser and they probably realized they don't want that stench permeating within the locker room while a guy like Bedard finds his way into the NHL. At least when they brought in Corey Perry he had some winning pedigree and experience to bring to the table... Hall is just a cheap rental they had no plans of keeping long term because their team literally has nobody for Bedard to play with.

For now, I'd say Carolina's chances of success look better after this trade so I'd lean towards them in the short term. Colorado may still have a few moves to make to round out their team before the playoffs. They've already improved their goaltending, so that's one major concern addressed. Maybe there's more to come from them in the next month?

I like it for all parties, but I'll say Carolina cause they got the best player in the deal, and someone that could be part of their long term plans (and Necas was clearly not).
