I am picking the Oilers with the hope and assumption that their plan to accumulate cap space and make a really good acquisition at the deadline will pay off.

Edmonton or Dallas. Went Edmonton. I don’t feel good about anyone in the East. Florida’s played A LOT of hockey. Rangers could do it if they get some luck to overcome the 5v5 struggles since they have the ultimate safety blankets in their PP and Igor. Canes just don’t have the juice. TB and Boston still good but idk about Cup winners. Idk maybe Devils/Leafs coaching changes propel them up
Came here to say something like this although between the Oilers/Dallas it's a pickem really right?

Maybe the Avs in the west as well, east man I got no idea right now but the travel benefits might help the team that emerges.

A lot of picks for the Oilers here, but until they improve their defense I’m really hesitant to pick them. They would have easily the worst defense out of any cup winner since Carolina. There’s only 1 defenseman on the Oilers that I would consistently trust defensively.

Oilers are going to be out on the first round this year. Done on by goaltending and injuries to a deadline couple key forwards.

I think it will be Stars v Nucks and then Rags v Jersey for Lord Stanley

Field...minus the Leafs.

Toronto managed to become a worse team this season than they were last season...and they sure haven't been a legitimate SC contender at any point over the last 55 plus years.

I personally feel like the New Jersey Devils, if healthy, if playing up to their standards, and if reasonable steps forward are taken by their young guns, (a lot of ifs, sure), have a top 5 D corps, a top 5 forward group, and a top 10 goalie.

If it all goes right I think they could be a juggernaut.

Oilers are my best bet to win but it's a bit cliche so I'll throw NJD out there.

Lotta people said we would never land on the moon. 5 years later and boom. Kubrick faked the whole thing.
So the Leafs will fake winning the cup? OK, I guess I could see that happening.

How are the Leafs worse this season than they were last season?

Goaltending. Replaced a 23 game winner with a guy lacking 23 wins in his entire NHL career and a decent, but uninspiring backup.

Worse

Forwards. Replaced a 20/20 guy in Bertuzzi with MaxPac...a 35 YO who hasn't posted 40 point numbers in years.

Worse

Defense. Replaced a bunch of NHL quality D-men with a handful of NHL quality D-men.

Push...lateral movement.

Nah, this is just wrong.

Defence is better for sure, Tanev alone is substantial upgrade on anyone we lost from last season.

Samsonov was awful last season, he won't be missed in goal. Woll on the other hand was fantastic in the playoffs and if he can stay healthy, goaltending could be a strength for a change.

Bertuzzi's loss is no big deal, we have some young guys on the way up who could easily make up for his loss.

Gotta be the Oilers. McDavid has to win the cup while in his prime. After that, it will be difficult with Leon’s extension kicking in and then his own contract.
