I mean, to be fair, his drop in production did coincide with the arrival of Matt Duchene, first, and the development of Ryan O'Reilly, second. His ice time has definitely been diminished.

I worry about signing a guy on the cusp of 30 (he'll be 29 in December) to a long term deal when he's already not a great skater and already seen a production dip.

Brad Richards 2.0

Would scream disaster in a few years. absolutely zero interest.

Body of work.

Look who he played with 3 seasons ago. Stiffs. Colo was a bad team.

Last year he had talent with him and was rock solid. Had a productive season in all scoring numbers and played a shutdown role. Solid playoffs.

Corsi off the charts.

Add him to Nash and kreider and both those guys run wild. He can take d zone face offs, play the pk and pp as well.

He's expensive but so are maseratis.

And again, do we like step, brash and miller as the 1 2 and 3?

The body of work shows a less productive player than he used to be. "He had a productive year" and he still wasn't a 70 point player like you portrayed him.

Now, don't get me wrong, 60 points is essentially a $6m player on the open market. He will get that and he deserves that. It's more of it not being a good fit for this team as currently constituted, roster-wise and Cap-wise.

rangers play a speed game, they need to get FASTER...not slower.

Which is why, if they target a center, I'd prefer Kadri over nearly any name mentioned. Grabovski is a good player, but he has no upside. Would prefer Brassard with an expanded role, plus Miller/Lindberg competing for 3C over Grabo, though I wouldn't be crazy upset if they signed him. Kadri, at least, has room to grow and has wheels that ROR or Stastny do not.

Grabo is looking for North of 5 mil for 4 min.

Again comes down to who's out there that makes us better the next 3 yrs and doesn't cost us a roster player or top prospect.

I like grabos game and think he would thrive in an av system but sadly skill wise he doesn't make us much better.

might just be me, but I don't see Staal + someone like Miller as extreme overpayment if it got ROR.. it might hurt the D (and we'd have to replace Staal), but its not overpayment at all..

and if we can't sign Staal.. that makes the deal even better.. Colorado has a glaring hole on D and all kinds of space to sign him.

But dream as we might, the Avs aren't trading us O'Reilly without overpayment. Kadri is likely the same story.

Yup. Pretty much.

The guys who are younger will cost more.

Hanks has a window. We need to get better up the middle and keep the roster in tact.

That means sign an impact 1c ufa.

Paul stasny.

i like Kadri, actually quite a bit. Im just not sure what we could trade for him. Staal for Kadri? Seems like overpayment by us.

Paul Stastny is in the bottom rung of 1Cs, if he's even that. He's certainly not an "impact" player.

I actually do like him a lot as a player. He's just a bad fit.

And, in our cap situation, he's no fit at all. The only way to upgrade center is to downgrade defense. Bad idea.

If I had McDonagh I'd take that and run.

If I had McDonagh and a capable 2nd pair LD, I would too. The problem is that the Rangers don't have that. They have the luxury of having a 1st pair shutdown type D playing on the 2nd pair. There's no one to replace Staal if we deal him.

Staal + B prospect for Kadri/Gardiner would be something more interesting.

Miller was better than a point per game in what was his true rookie season. When's the last time we had a prospect do that at Hartford? Plus he brings some bite. I can see MSL moving up to Stepan's line and Miller centering Nash and Hagelin. Kid needs to play.

We would definitely need a defenseman in any return.. even if we signed Stralman.. neither him or Klein can play the Left side if Mac ended up getting hurt.

What is Willie Mitchell looking for? (doubt Kings let him go though), if we were to trade Staal.

Rangers need to decide if they are going to want to/can afford to keep Staal after next year.. if not its best to deal him this off season, rather than as a rental at the trade deadline.

In my ideal world, Staal takes Hjalmarsson's contract.

But he'll be looking at 6 mill +.

Not a fan of that number. At all.
