Change is good.
Glen Sather?Yea. Who needs depth when you can be underwhelmed by a wildly expensive Paul Stastny?

Yeah, I think the idea is to acquire a guy who can play to start the year, with the hopes that if an injury occurs Miller can establish himself a legitimate NHL player.
Locking yourself into a 4-5 year deal on a guy like Legwand is not prudent, and dealing Miller for a guy like Spezza or Thornton is not prudent either, in the cap world.
We need to have flexibility after next year to sign MSL/Stepan/Hagelin/Staal.
That's going to be a ****** ****ing offseason.
Much happier to go with Miller/Lindberg/some bargain FA signing at 3C rather than go after Spezza/Thornton/Stastny. Kadri or ROR could be interesting, depending on the price, but I have reservations about both. I continue to hope for something outside the box. If we're dealing Staal, I want a guy like Coyle, Zibanejad or Bjugstad back. Maybe one of the Buffalo centers - or someone like McD that the scouting staff has long coveted, but is not on our collective radar.
The key is to identify the next Schiefele/Johansen/Galchenyuk BEFORE he breaks out and becomes unattainable.
actually that's what drafting is for, but we blow at that..
Remind me when we had that 2nd overall pick again?
Don't like the idea of any of those guys. But I also don't like the idea of having Richards and Boyle gone, and hoping Miller is the answer.
Hopefully none of these guys.
Im for signing a relatively cheap guy like Grabovski or Goc and having that player battle with Miller for the 3C spot.
These other guys? Too much money, too many assets, too much risk.
I'd work around Miller. St. Louis is a very creative player--much more so than Nash. St. Louis could help Miller get to the next step.
Remind me of how many times we missed on a 1st rounder (when there were plenty of good ones left?) doesn't always have to be a top 5.. Giroux is one example.. Getzlaf is another one.. Mcilrath at #10?.. FML..

remind me of the year every team expect the rangers missed on stepan? and callahan? and dubinsky? and anisimov?
If we go after Stastny we are absolutely in awful shape for a long time. I'd give Grabo a look. If not, roll Miller Between MSL and Hags.

Three examples and we're terrible drafters.
You're just clueless.
Nash is the only forward signed after next year as of this moment
I've already said we can draft in the later rounds (as evidenced here)... It's the 1ST round they ALWAYS miss out on.. other than Staal and Kreider.
In the 1st round...
Sanguinetti busted.
Cherepanov died.
MDZ is an NHL player and had two great seasons and one very good season here. No way is that a "miss".
Kreider looks like slam dunk.
McIlrath at least fills a need and is very close to the NHL. You can ***** and moan all you want about Cam Fowler and Tarasenko but he's not a bust in any sense.
Miller looks like a great pick.
Skjei looks like a great pick.
So one bust in the last 8 years? Yeah I'll take that.
For what we need and what he provides. I take Stastny over Grabovski 10 out of 10 times
So far we have drafted one top six player in the last 8 years in the 1st round and that's Kreider. Definition of a team that has not done well in the 1st round sugar coat it anyway u want there's a reason Sather always goes trades or FA... I'll give u Cherapanov so 2.. and the mcilrath pick was a bust as soon as they said his name for a #10 overall. Let him prove me wrong please and I'll gladly admiti was wrong
