I'd rather it be Kreider, but concerned given that former Rangers have personally told me he is a "headcase"

In the end it doesnt really matter much imho

I feel like that comment from them is a bit unfair. He's tended to internalize things, and maybe get a little too caught in a cycle of thinking, but headcase implies he's a nutjob.

Sean Avery is a headcase.

I'd disagree with those using the same label for Kreider.

I also disagree and was a little shocked when I heard it. It was also years ago so he has likely "matured" even more.

Personally I've always thought of him as an extremely intelligent, incredibly good guy. Charitable and thoughtful as you mentioned.

I think the "headcase" label is more about his on-ice overthinking.

He very much is, based on my interactions with him and those who have spent a lot of time around him.

The Rangers have a good mix of personalities simmering right now. They just need time and the right catalyst to take the next step.

As an outsider, I really do appreciate how Kreider seems to bond with the other players on the team.

Also as an outsider, it's a bit concerning that when he goes on his inevitable cold streaks, his priority may shift inward and he could lose the room.

When Kreider's clicking, he's vocal, engaged, and someone for the young kids to look to.
When Kreider's off, I worry others may tune him out a bit, or that he'll be too quiet to be an effective leader.

As noted on here, and in the occasional news coverage, any hesitations about naming Kreider captain were not a Quinn thing. They existed before anyone here was even talking about Quinn and the discussions have continued now that he's gone.
Fair enough, I do see the reasons for hesitation. But if the idea is Lafreniere is eventually going to be captain I feel like Kreider checks a lot of boxes to be sort of an 'interim' captain for a few years.

That's been part of the debate for a while now.

Rangers expected to name captain as front-runner emerges

On the one hand, there's lots of smoke. On the other hand, "we'll name one when there is one" is what they've been saying since the McDonagh trade.

There's a non-zero chance that this is all the media giving us a scoop of air.

By yesterday's Turk press conference. I don't believe he believes naming a captain is the most important thing but he's been mandated by Drury to name one before season's start.

And what validity does that hold? If somebody tells me somebody is a "headcase", I couldn't care less. I'd have to make up my own mind, whether or not that person is.

Could very well be, the people you talked to are "headcases" and they couldn't evaluate such a thing to begin with.

Who wore As the first two preseason games?

I saw Kreider, Trouba, and Panarin. I’m sure I’m missing someone or two.
