At this point Brayden Schenn to the Leafs feels inevitable. I think the unanimous opinion on this board is the reported asking pirce (1st+Cowan/Minten/Danford) is a non-starter.

The reason I started this thread was to ask the questions: if St. Louis traded Brayden Schenn to Toronto for future considerations - would you, a Leafs fan, be happy with the move?

This would mean the Leafs are taking on Schenn until his age 36 season at 6.5M. This would leave the Leafs with:

X-Matthews-X
McMann-Schenn-Nylander
X-Domi-Jarnkrok
X-Kampf-Reaves

McCabe-Tanev
Rielly-Myers
OEL-Benoit

Woll
Stolarz

and 24.2M to fill out the remaining of the roster.

RFA: Dewar, Robertson, Knies, Timmins, Holmberg
Reject offer.

It can’t be that much. The Blues would have to retain 50% and take Kampf or Domi
What's been reported is they want the equivalent of 2 1sts. It is utter madness, you're doing the Blues a favor by getting them out from under that contract.
The Leafs have to look elsewhere. Coyle or Gourde would be better fits.

If you're into reuniting brothers, what about Brandon Tanev?

I don’t understand the fascination with bringing in Luke Schenn for a third go round.

He’s a mediocre defenseman and was essentially unwanted and out of hockey the last time Toronto traded for him.

There’s so many better options for a defenseman.

First of all I don’t want either but my guess as to the appeal of Schenn was he came in and wasn’t a playoff sissy. A refreshing change for those leafs fans that appreciate the will to battle through tough playoff hockey.

I will never forget the series vs Tampa. Hagel, Jeannot chirping our bench and Luke being the only one to show a pulse. That spoke volumes

That was when the Leafs defense was softer than wet toilet paper so it made Schenn look much tougher and much better than he actually is.

Justin Holl, Rasmus Sandin and Timid Liljegren - - what a pitiful team Dumbass put together.

Not only were they soft they were terrible offensively AND terrible defensively. The worst possible combination imaginable.

Not a fan of reheated soup. Rather we go all out and get Parayako.
Not a fan of hijacking or off topic discussions. Why don't you start a Parayko thread.

If both players are indicating that they will not sign or are asking for a price Montreal doesn't want to pay, the GM should make a trade to maximize their assets. The job of their GM is to make the Habs better. If Toronto gives the best return, Habs would be best served to take it.
True. Lou had no problems doing deals with MTL (and OTT). It's possible Treliving could do it.

I don't want either considering the rumored asking price. Would be much cheaper to get Evans and Savard out of Montreal. Evans has one less goal than Brayden Schenn, 9 less points and costs 1.7 against the cap. Savard can play top 4 RD whereas Luke is more of a bottom pairing. Oh and Evans is a plus on an awful Montreal club

Last time Luke was here, he and Rielly were one of the best pairings in the playoffs. As our 2nd pairing they'd be lights out. It's a known commodity and a more affordable option.
We need Rielly at his best and Luke seems to bring that out.

Not sure there's much room for either. A team can only have so many slow vets.

I'd have a bit more interest in Luke but would need some retention for next year's aav.

Any team with a 35 year old slow footed Luke Schenn as one of its top four defensemen has ZERO chance at contending for a championship. None whatsoever.
