I don't watch btaden schenn so i don't know how good he is still
He’s okay. Probably worth half or a little more than half his contract now and that’ll get worse every year.

He’d be an okay get if he was on an expiring contract but 3 more years makes him a huge mistake. Hopefully Tre isn’t that stupid.
Either way, we’ll know soon.

Too much to give up for a declining player.

Just over 24 hours later and it’s basically an even split. 49% of voters would not take on Brayden Schenn’s contract for free.

We’re in for a fun week.

It's a hard hell no man. He is a cap dump or a trash swap for me. I think he is more useful then Jankrok or Domi. Simple as that.

They used to say that about Bogosian.

Also Hal Gill + Larry Murphy.

You’re grasping at straws, my friend.

Hal Gill and Wacky Zachy were NEVER even close to being top four defenseman for Pittsburgh and Tampa’s Cup winning teams.

Larry Murphy is a four time Stanley Cup champion and a hall of fame defenseman. With Detroit, he was also paired with one of the greatest defensemen in hockey history.

I’m pretty sure that even the laughably bad Justin Holl would look decent if he had Lidstrom as his defence partner.

What's been reported is they want the equivalent of 2 1sts. It is utter madness, you're doing the Blues a favor by getting them out from under that contract.
The Leafs have to look elsewhere. Coyle or Gourde would be better fits.

If you're into reuniting brothers, what about Brandon Tanev?
The price might “All In”, but he’s not an “All In” C.

Any team with a 35 year old slow footed Luke Schenn as one of its top four defensemen has ZERO chance at contending for a championship. None whatsoever.
It would be difficult without a couple of studs taking up 48 minutes a night.

Really don’t want to redo the 2023 all in. ROR was okay but not the difference maker and he left on bad terms

He was good for us and we won a round that year, which is better than every other year. Also, reportedly Nashville will only trade him somewhere he’s willing to go, so if he gets traded here I think it’s safe to say any “bad terms” were overblown, or the issues left with Keefe and his staff. Will never know for sure

In any case, I’m only saying I think he’s a better option than Schenn.
- better player
- also has term, but lower AAV by 2 mil
- very productive as recently as last year
- still a top tier two-way player

ROR didn't wanna re-sign here, I'm not getting the impression he'd wanna come back, especially when he still has 2 years left on his deal.

It entirely depends what the truth is of why he ultimately left.

- some say we were outbid
- some say he didn’t like the media scrutiny
- some say he disagreed with how the team was coached vs Florida.

if it’s the 2nd, then he likely wouldn’t want to come back. If it’s the other two, neither would be a roadblock anymore.

Yeah, but they were considered "slow footed"

Yeah, but they were considered "slow footed"

Gill and Bogosian were NEVER close to sniffing top four defenseman status when they won a Cup in Pittsburgh and Tampa.

Plugs like those two and Luke Schenn are bottom pairing or depth in the press box defenceman on championship teams.

But if there’s a hall of fame defenceman like Larry Murphy available at the deadline, I’d gladly give up a 1st round pick for the Leafs to acquire him, regardless of how slow footed he is.

No.

Slow.

Is our 2016 1st and Minton even enough to get B. Schenn (with the needed retention)?

I've heard arguments that it might not be enough.

Parayko is the type of move that Tre should look as he got terms and not just a rental.
But if Coyle and Carlo are available, would rather take these two if cost is the same.

The Schenn brothers, Parayko and Charlie Coyle are all video game trades - - in other words, they make ZERO sense in reality for Toronto.

Way too expensive contracts, way too much term, way too expensive in terms of acquisition cost. All on the wrong side of 30 with their vast days long gone.

It has to be an inexpensive under-the-radar type of deal for an impact player, similar to the Jake McCabe trade.

A top four defenseman in his 20’s with a $2M cap hit and term still remaining.

Such as who? Where is the list of 2m top 4 20 year olds teams are going to send our way?

A 35 year old stay at home d who only two years ago (just as slow then as he apparently is now) paired with Rielly to form one of the best pairings in the playoffs is not a flipping video game trade. Having that as your second pair? The Leafs didn't have a Tanev two years ago. That top four is solid come playoffs. Just need a reliable.partner for OEL now.

I don’t want either of them at the prices rumoured.

The fact that Seth Jones retained for 5 years went for less than the rumoured ask for Brayden Schenn says all you need to know about how overrated he is.
