Prediction time

Quite a few high profile RFAs remain unsigned with training camps beginning next week. Which player do you think signs first and bonus question, how much and for how long are each going to get?

I voted Hughes. I hope it's Kaprizov since he has to get a work visa, travel, quarantine, potentially get vaccinated, etc.

Hughes and Pettersson deals will be announced at the same time. They have the same agent.

I think Dahlin gets done first because I think his raise will be the smallest.

Are the other 4 guaranteed to miss the start of camp like Kaprizov due to immigration/Covid stuff?

Not sure it's been reported their requirements from Sweden to USA, Sweden to Canada and America to Canada

Russo said he thinks some of the others might be waiting to see what Kaprizov can squeeze out of MIN. Not sure they can wait but it's reasonable some are delaying.

Hughes won't be first to sign. Otherwise they wouldn't have enough money to match an offer sheet for EP. Id guess Dahlin goes first.

is it feasible nucks are trying to move a cap hit in order to sign both long term ?

Highly unlikely. A lot of players who they could move to clear cap space are either recently signed or unmovable. They have to fit both under the 16.5 number.

Kaprisov doesn’t want to play in minnesota

Pettersson doesn’t want to play in Vancouver

Melnyk doesn’t wanna spend money

hughes can’t sign before Pettersson as he’s the only thing preventing an offer sheet for Petey

Dahlin signs first

might be the russian vaccine which doesn't count per the NHL
True, though it seemed like the vast, vast majority of NHLers were vaccinated (with a top notch vaccine) by the playoffs last year - could’ve gotten poked then.

Or maybe this is baseless speculation, and he’s fully vaccinated. But if he’s starting from scratch, it’s what, at least 6 weeks to full protection (shot 1, wait 4 weeks, then shot 2, then 2 more weeks). Assuming full vaccination is required, he’d be looking at a very late start if he hasn’t yet got his first shot.

i'm just gonna expect he's not going to play this year and anything more than that--a late start even--will be a massive pleasant surprise.

All reports are the sens offered him 64 million. I can't see any GM wanting to pay more than that.

Hughes can’t sign before Pettersson, because of the chance of a Pettersson offer sheet.
Dahlin should be the easiest to get signed because it’s for sure a bridge deal and for a lot less money than the others. Unless he’s wanting to be traded,

Dahlin. He's young and will be pressured easily.
They’re all young, with KK being just under 24.5 yo. EP is coming up on 23. QH and BT are just on either side of 22, and RD is 21.5.

Unless you think that a half year age difference makes Dahlin more pliable than Quinn or Brady, age has little influence compared to situation, team, years played in the NHL, and performance.

Why would Petterson sign that? All he has to is wait until they sign Hughes at which point he can get fair market value from another team.
