That wouldn't be off the board though.

Some people view Parekh as having the highest offensive upside of any D in the class. Some think he has Erik Karlsson potential.

You can't go off the board with any of the top 10 projected players.

Off the board would be Berkly Catton or Cole Eiserman or Konsta Helenius.

Parekh would be off the board, just as much as Catton -- and probably moreso. You could argue that Catton is the 3rd best forward available in the draft. Parekh is clearly the best offensive D but his defense, compete level and physical game are such massive determents that he's actively projected in the 8-12 range as a result.

For me, the deciding factor is this: the team will live and die with Connor Bedard as long as he’s here.

It would be nice to bolster our future defense even more. But the Hawks defensive position for the future is in no way a bad spot. Jones is here for a long time, Vlasic and Korchinski are the future. Kaiser, EDM and Allan are all getting close and have at times in their careers, played the right side. And Rinzel is another promising RD for the future.

Compared to the top 6 wing position, it’s a nightmare. Nazar and Moore are likely your 2C and 3C moving forward. So what top flight wings do we have? Hayes, Savoie, Dach, Misiak? They all project as bottom 6 wings, and Ludwinski is a bottom 6 center. Lardis and Kantserov are the only ones with any chance at a top 6 role but that’s still a long shot and years away.

Lev is a great prospect, but it tells me they are simply ignoring Bedard, telling him to do it himself. Demidov can be the wing on that line that will take make the Hawks relevant offensively moving forward.

If the pick is Lev, they better have a contingency plan to get Bedard help immediately. You won’t make any progress trying to grind it out 82 games a season, we need some goddamn forward talent. You can’t kick the can down the road forever signing plugs to play on the top line (Donato, Foligno)

What a drama queen lol.

What if I told you the hawks will suck next year and there’s like 4-5 great forward prospects in the 25 draft?

It’s like some of you think this is the last opportunity they’ll have to draft a talented forward.

This team could improve by 20 points and still have the 5th best odds in the draft next year. The rebuild isn’t even close to being over.

Im a Demidov > Levshunov guy but the sky is falling if we don’t take Demidov crowd is nonsensical.

Someone posted a page that had Demidov's ranking across all of the major scouting site's.

Can it be re-posted if possible?

Well Nostradamus, I’m glad that you know that next year’s draft has 4-5 great forward prospects that can step right in to help.

Fact is, that likely isn’t true, the wingers in that draft aren’t rated super highly as of right now. Not drafting Demidov means you’re kicking the can down the road at least two years. Now a lot changes in a year of course, but when you have an opportunity for an immediate fix, why pass on it?

And that’s if you draft someone in the 2025 draft that can step right in in their D+2 year. Hawks could only be so lucky.

If they take Lev, he damn better be at least Pietrangelo.
They take him and he ends up like Provorov then Davidson should be whacked.
When are you judging that, that's going to take 4/5 years until he's 22 to likely see. Some guys like Hedman taken 2nd, didn't pull it all together until 23.

That's fine. If they take Lev over Demidov and Lev is anything other than a top pairing D and Demidov is as advertised, then it's a huge failure imo. But like you said we won't know for 5 yrs because D take longer.

I am trying to talk myself into being ok with them taking Lev.

You live with that. He’s the almost consensus number 2. At least you weren’t wrong trying to be the smartest guy in the room, and you went for the guy with the highest ceiling. Not a fireable offense, unlike picking someone else and getting it wrong.
There’s nothing that suggests “smartest guy in the room” about passing on Demidov. If they like Levshunov (or anyone else) better they’ll take him. The idea that they have to take Demidov because public scouting lists have him as the consensus #2 is asinine

No, passing on Demidov is totally smartest guy in the room shit when he's talked about in the same breath as Kucherov.

This fan base is going to be so mad about the Levshunov pick that it’s going to be a self fulfilling prophecy. Poor Elite kid gonna go through the ringer for no good reason

That’s not how it works. Demidov =/= Kucherov just because fans and public scouts think so. If any GM is drafting players based on public consensus then they should immediately be fired. GMs and scouts have their jobs for a reason. If you’re picking at #2, the pick should be who YOU think the best player available is. Not who the fans think it is

Usually when a GM goes off the board it doesn't work.
