Who should get in the 2026 HoF? Players who receive less than 5% of the vote are eliminated. The 2025 ballot eliminated Ian Kinsler 10 (2.5), Russell Martin 9 (2.3), Brian McCann 7 (1.8), Troy Tulowitzki 4 (1.0), Curtis Granderson 3 (0.8), Adam Jones 3 (0.8), Carlos González 2 (0.5), Hanley Ramírez 0, Fernando Rodney 0, Ben Zobrist 0. @Dr Pepper

The problem for Jones is he literally fell off a cliff performance wise as soon as he turned 30. I wouldnt be against him getting in, but how many players have had the same trajectory and are in the hall? He was worth 2 fWAR after 30.

Because of injuries, not him simply sucking overnight. His post 30 games played were 75, 82, 107, 77, 94. IMO that's a worthy distinction to make, guys cant control injury issues.

Plus the barrier of "great player who had a bad late career due to injuries" barrier has been broken and not just in baseball.

Gold Gloves are not a good measure of defensive performance and Vizquel was not more deserving than a dozen other shortstops who will never have a plaque.

If Jones had all of his seasons at three years older than he actually was, it wouldn't change his value at all. I don't see why the age he was when he collapsed matters, just what kind of value he provided.
 
Beltran, Andruw Jones, Utley and Pedroia. Pedroia had the peak, MVP, and RotY award to justify his inclusion. Utley was only second to Pujols at his peak. Jones was one of the most brilliant center fielders to play the game. Beltran is arguably one of the best switch-hitters ever.

I still think Jim Edmonds shouldn't have fallen off of the ballot his first year and deserves a HOF mention. To me, if Rolen's in, Edmonds has to be in, too. And yes, I'm a biased Cards fan, but I still feel that.

Jones (if he doesn't in '26 he will in his final year in '27)

Kinda agree on Edmonds. Add Kenny Lofton too. guys were just a victim of stacked ballots and dinosaur writers. If they get on the ballot more recently I'm sure we talk about them like we do Jones, Helton, Rolen, etc. I wasn't a Jones guy initially but I realized its not fair to punish his peak for his fall off. It was still 10 years.

We might have to start talking about Felix Hernandez, short peak but it was dominant, and can't compare pitchers of the last 20 years to those from the past. Different came now. Wish Johan Santana was still on the ballot for the same reason. We might not see another pitcher elected for another 5-10 years, after CC, until Verlander, Scherzer, Greinke and Kershaw retire. We'll see how Lester does.


Some light ballots coming up. Next year will be Beltran, maybe Jones, and whoever the Veterans Committee elects. No new locks. Lester might be the only one who gets over 5%. Utley seems to be on a trajectory to eventually get in the backend of his eligibility.

'27 is pretty much just Posey.
'28 is Pujols, Molina and Cano (who won't get in cause of positive tests)

Agreed on all points. I don't think any known and admitted cheats should be in the Hall because we'd have to allow many different cases (Shoeless Joe, Pete Rose, Bonds, Clemens, etc.), so I'd easily say no to A-Rod and Manny.

You're right that Felix, Lofton, and Santana deserve likely deserve HOF votes. Honestly feel that Kinsler deserved to stay on at least a year over someone like Vizquel. There are not many power/speed/defense keystone players like him that played in the league, and honestly, Vizquel isn't really HOF material; if you're allowing him in, might as well elect Andrelton Simmons, and nobody's calling for him to make the Hall.

It's going to be a fairly light list of ballots until Verlander, Scherzer, Greinke, and Kershaw retire with just Posey, Pujols, and Molina. It really is a shame that Lofton, Edmonds, and Santana are out; they would've benefitted from the circumstances that are likely going to elect guys like Jones (albeit on a later ballot), Utley, and possibly Pedroia.

I also think that Ken Boyer should've gotten in on the Classic Era ballot. Yes, I'm a biased Cardinals fan. Sue me.

I have Kent as an easy yes for HOF but Utley was absolutely dominant from 2005-2010 and then another 4 good years after and a good year prior. 2B is such a weak position in general I think he should get in.

I'm not exactly a big hall guy but there's probably a good 10-15% of players that I would just swap out with others.

Jones I think should get in because his first 10 years was so unbelievably good... it's just he was replacement level or worse after that.

Beltran I have in as well but to me he's a better Bobby Abreu. Great career. Very consistent but nothing exactly to hang his on. Both have some great postseason numbers though. Beltran's stats in particular are quite beastly in a number of the deep runs. These guys were professional hitters in every sense of the word
