i completely forgot about Boucher ...he's usually good for 2 seasons (only)
Joel Q is the 'best' option save any baggage, but, i dont know the details, so refrain to hold it against him
Carbery ...i hate our full motion PP and the drop back passes, so, huge No from me
Gallant gets fired a lot, so, must be something with him to avoid
Vigneault could be an option i guess
Boudreau would be entertaining, but, he's a fan, so, no idea if that would make him work harder, or be awed

Guys, Joel Quenneville covered up a sexual assault and then wrote a glowing reference to the guy responsible for it which allowed him to get a job in a high school and rape another kid.

Winning is not THAT important to me, it's just sports. If it's that important to you, I want one of you to hire a former sex offender to babysit your kids..

I don't really care about the concerns others have regarding Gallant's short shelf life. The core itself should have a way shorter shelf life than 2-3 years at this point (which is Gallant's shelf life). Despite his short shelf life, he's still made 2 deep playoff runs with 2 different teams recently. I'm also a big fan of his tactics and systems.

This article mostly talks about Keefe's tactics and systems, but there's also an interesting blurb where it contrasts Vegas' relentless puck pursuit under Gallant to the heavy puck possession style Keefe used:

"Vegas’ relentless puck pursuit, which most pundits have been calling The Swarm, is another example of soccer-inspired tactics that require more risk-taking. Much like Liverpool’s “Gegenpress,” a hyper-aggressive forecheck, there are going to be times when the team gets burned for playing so aggressively. But they’re also going to reap the benefits of playing that style. What it really comes down to is whether or not you believe the pros are going to outweigh the cons in the long-run."

Laviolette also kind of interests me. Outside of his time with the Caps, he's made deep playoff runs everywhere he's went (Canes, Flyers, Preds). However it is concerning that he's the first coach since Dale Hunter to miss the playoffs with an Ovechkin led Caps team.

Gallant, Brunette, Tippett. Those would be my 3 leading candidates.

I liked Keefe just fine, BTW. But I recognize that the team is looking for change.

While I find the comparisons between the two sports interesting being a fan of both, due to the physical reality of either, adapting football systems to hockey isn't simple, or even practically viable. Football tactics are more akin to Chess IMO, passages of play move much slower and methodically. Whereas, Hockey has the factor of speed and near-constant high-paced movement.

Also, saying because they have the object (puck or ball) more is kind of a lazy comparison really, and doesn't really give Guardiola's positional system, or its traits its due. There have been many Hockey teams in the past that used these ideas, namely the late 90's Red Wings or even the Bruins of about 10 years ago.

I always thought that he was borrowing more from Basketball with shooting from high percentage areas and getting around crease (or paint).

I'd love to see what Gary Roberts could bring to the table. Obviously that is a guy who personifies the brand of play we need to adhere to. But he has no coaching experience that I am aware of. Didn't seem to be a huge issue for Martin St. Louis in MTL, but it really does seem like a stretch.

I know some people won't like hearing this, but I think if Q gets reinstated by the NHL, he needs to be a serious contender for the position. He is a hall of fame coach, and someone who will not take losing lightly. I think he might be the right balance of player coach and competitor. I think a little dose of old school might help this group TBH.

say what you will about the optics behind it all, but if the NHL deems him fit to return, we should take that at face value. People make mistakes, Q made a major mistake that he is paying the price for. Was his offence beyond redemption? I guess that is not for me to decide, but I tend to allow more leniency in giving people a platform to right their previous wrongs. If Q can show a level of awareness and remorse for his previous actions/inactions, then I would be more then willing to provide him the opportunity to coach our team. But that is just me.

That said, I highly doubt MLSE will hire him, but he is the best option IMO

Dare I say John Tortorella? May just be what this group needs.
Oh boy....Vancouver tried that with Keenan to try and whip up some emotion from the Sedins, linden etc and it did not go well at all. I cant see our high priced boy band liking or responding positively to Torts one little bit.

He may as well pull a Spezza and resign

The next gm is not keeping him around. Shanahan probably going to leave the firing up to that gm, who will not keep an AHL coach in the big leagues

He’s dead in the water, stuck in that awkward not fired but guaranteed to be gone spot
If he quits he doesnt get paid....if he gets let go he does

A lot of players respond negatively to a coach like Torts; there's a reason he, like Keenan, only managed to win one Cup in his coaching career...

No way him and Bowman should be back in NHL again ( at least in Canada). The team would do it is just completly stupid.

Remembered whats happed in Montreal with Mailloux or whats happening with CF montreal with Sandro Grande

If leafs hire quenneville, they will be crucified in public and Shanahan will jump with

I'm not going to pretend to know anything that went on there.
Qu lied about when he heard about it, and lost his job and his reputation.

Montreal had no issue drafting Mailloux, and now they have him, and he's playing as if nothing ever happened.
They got some negative press when it happened, but, then it stopped, and now they have the player that they wouldnt have with that late a pick.

is it 'right' NO, but, it's 'business' and sometimes business is really ugly and unethical, and as soon as Qu is reinstated, some team will hire him.

Hopefully, he's not a fit here, but, technically, he would be the best 'coach' available.
