I'd argue that the list is much longer than many would anticipate, mostly because NHL GMs are as risk-averse as it gets in professional sports. A guy like, let's say Kucherov should be an easy trade, but does a GM want to be the guy who traded a perennial superstar for a bust (if it was to turn out that way)? Nope, gotta get another GM job some day. Better not risk it, am I right? On the Jets? No one.
Around the league I think the only reasonable answers are McDavid and maybe Makar due to a combination of contract and ability (and that's a big maybe).
It's pretty hard to balance out the value of a potential superstar on an ELC because it's really not a 1-for-1 deal at that point, it's Bedard plus 3 years of whoever you can afford with the cap savings. Even if you think Bedard will only be equivalent to a $7M player over the length of his ELC, that's a huge discount and you still get his rights after that.
That said, I'd trade any pair of Jets' players for Bedard without even bothering to check which two guys they were.
