Goloubef is 25, has three years of pro experience, and has played less than 80 #NHL games.

He'll get a "we liked what we saw from you, we want you to continue to work hard" statement and an offer of 1-2 years at ~$1.5 million AAV.

based on the Dorsett 4yr 2.65 AAV contract that just got handed out, you have to think Letestu is gone for more money.

Letestu is gone for term. I agree that if Dorse lands that type of deal then Letestu will get paid but with the number of young players showing promise Letestu is in a similar position DMac was in last year. I don't see how the CBJ can sign him more than 2 years max if they have players pushing from prospect level up.

I think you are right. I might see how a 3 year deal could work but I doubt it. He will be this years D-Mac.

I think we're overthinking the Dorse-Letestu comparison a bit. Vancouver is loving what Dorse is bringing - he seems a bit smarter than he used to be - and whether its a good idea or not, they want to make a long term commitment to him. The price for fourth liners hasn't gone up much league-wide. But I do think Letestu is gone, mostly because he'll want a chance to play somewhere higher up in the lineup.

You have to commit to the right players. We commit too much to 3rd/4th liners for long term, often those are the guys we are "stuck with".
I have no problem in right situation giving the right bottom 6 forward a long term deal, but it has to be the right player (someone who will still produce if you give them the security).
Tough with guys like D-mac and Letestu just because we have/had so many other 3rd/4th liners commited to.

huh? I didn't see too many people happy with that payday in the thread. Also a lot of angry people over Sbsia getting paid well anything.

Letestu needs to be re signed, when you see how this team is playing he fits in perfect. If you dont resign him and replace him with kids, then we're stuck again in a lack of depth once the injuries start (and they will happen next year).

Letestu signed for peanuts two years ago. It could happen again... right?

Probably not. I think he'd be looking for a ~ 3 year / $6.5 million deal. Purely guessing, but you know he wants more than Boll's $1.7

He's trying to set himself up in negotiations though:

“I’ve played with that speed before,” Letestu said, smiling. “Derek MacKenzie on the flank worked well last year; Blake Comeau was a good complement on the right side.
“But I think you have that offensive upside with Calvy, and Mo has a reputation for being a shooter. There is offense there. It’s going to come. It’s just too bad there are only (three) games left to work with it.”

“All teams in this league now are 12, 13 or 14 deep,” Letestu said. “If you have a line you’re afraid to put on the ice in certain situations, it’s not good.”

Subtly taking digs at the FO/Tropp/Boll. Perhaps explaining his lower numbers this year.

I also think he's saying he wants to be back, but not if he has to lug around Tropp and Boll on a nightly basis.

Speculation has started about buying out Boll's contract - would be a $650K hit for the next four years.

If they do that, I could see them waiving Tropp and being fine losing him/keeping him in the AHL. They could then bring back the lineup of the last 5 or so games, with Clarkson battling Morin for 4RW spot and Bourque as the extra forward.

If they trade any of the current top 9 (outside of Arty) I'ma be pissed. Hell, I think they should keep Arty because he's got some chemistry going with Dubinsky.

See if Ottawa still has interest in Clarkson haha.

Only reason Arty should be traded is if there's a legit NHL defensman coming back, if not, then we should keep him. The way this team looks like right now is impressive, and having depth is not a bad thing. I expect, actually, demand this team to be a cap spender to go to the next level. This teams run looks like theyre very close, now is the time to strike.

What's funny is Letestu is probably slower than Boll so he has nowhere to take shots at anyone. Didn't he go like 40 games in a row without a goal one time playing higher in the lineup than the 4th line??

non scoring center who is good at faceoffs is worth WAAAAAAYYYY more than a winger who doesn't score and doesn't do much else...

I think my preferable opening day roster would look something like this:

Foligno-Johansen-Atkinson
Jenner-Dubinsky-Anisimov
Hartnell-Wennberg-Dano
Calvert-Letestu-Morin
Borque
Clarkson

Johnson-Savard
Murray-Tyutin
Goloubef-Connauton

Bobrovsky
Cmac

I honestly think the team built as is could do some serious damage in the east next season. While i want us to really do something about our defense, as it really got exposed when we had so much offensive struggles in the beginning due to injuries. But with a healthy offense it will take a lot of pressure off the defense. And if Murray can stay healthy he'll have a major impact next season. I think MacElhinney is a more than capable backup and he showed it after having a rough start. The team as is should make the playoffs. I really dont see any big moves being made unless Jarmo is going to package picks and prospects for a NHL player.
