Is that his training camp number?

That it is. Though I don’t think Byfield would have to worry about asking for his permission to wear it.

Repêchage de la LNH: que feront les Kings ?
Once the New York Rangers confirm the selection of Alexis Lafrenière as the first choice of the virtual auction scheduled for October 6 and 7, in less than a month, the Los Angeles Kings will have to make a choice between the two forwards who have clearly been identified as being closest to him as prospects, Quinton Byfield of Sudbury Wolves and Tim Stützle of Germany's Adler Mannheim.

The Ottawa Senators, speaking in third place, will then inherit whoever remains, barring a huge surprise.

"It's a good problem to have because they're both great players," Kings director of player personnel Nelson Emerson said in an interview this week with The Athletic.

A head scout at an NHL club interviewed by Le Droit anonymously in return for his franchise hears that the Kings are leaning towards Byfield, and he says that's good news for the Senators.

Ottawa based reporter doesn't have a weird conspiracy tie of Kings to Stutzle? That's refreshing. He'd also better enter witness protection.

The next headlines are that actually Stützle falling to three is a godsend, Byfield sucks, and they never wanted him.

This is the best take on those who nitpick and try to find a reason to knock down Byfield's game.

Some dolts knock him for being productive because he can score on the rush, as if that's a bad thing.

I just finished reading the article. I think they are finally comming to terms with the Kings leaning on selecting Byfeild. So they are now quoting a unamed "scout" that says Stuztle to the Sens is good news for them. He is more dynamic, a better player, makes other players better and basically said you can play him in any position and he will help the team win. Sounds more like his agent.

Byfield is big, fast, but with questionable hockey sense and is more individualistic, according to the same "scout".

Both are true.

But you draft Byfield for the potential grand slam if he gets near his ceiling. Stützle could very well - even most likely - be the better player, but in the Kings position you can afford to swing for the fences of a franchise level enormous, dominating top line center. Those chances come around so rarely.

Most of Byfield's strengths center around offensive transition. He does puck watch and act more complacent in zone play than you would like out of a guy who will play nearly 1/3rd of every game. Those are 100% legitimate criticisms. But they are coachable weaknesses for the most part, and if they are attitude based you can suss that out in pre draft interviews.

Stützle is a high energy, buzzsaw puck hound, and that sort of approach out of your best players can be infectious down the lineup. He is an exceptional skater with better vision and passing than Byfield. He will make those around him more dangerous than Byfield will - and that isn't a knock on Byfield, its just that one guy is simply a little better at it than him at the top of the food chain. But Stützle doesn't have the same 35-40 goal potential of Byfield (who isn't really a sniper either), he doesn't have the same scheme-changing affect on defenses, and doesn't look to be the kind of player you build a franchise around.

Assuming both hit their ceilings, Byfield changes your franchise, Stützle makes the existing one better in a lot of high impact ways. Its a tough choice that we are fortunate to have to make.

One thing is for certain--immediately following the 3rd OA pick, the Kings will have made the wrong choice and the Sens will have made the right choice because they didn't want who the Kings took anyway and their organization smartly influenced us into making the wrong pick.

when your ultimate goal is the stanley cup, sometimes you have to take calculated risks. I would say Byfield is that risk.

I've been leaning towards Byfield. But for some reason, I'm really starting to believe it's Stutzle. He can play 3 positions. He lacks size at C, but he's so versatile I don't think it will matter. Not that Byfield can't skate with the wingers..... ah hell IDK! lol
