I hope Guhle falls a bit and we make the play to move up for a second 1st. I don't think he does but man he has the skill, the physical size and play and the shot to be something better than expected. I like him way more than Sanderson.

As for defence I also think Barron has the tools to be something special. Injuries slowed him and it would have been great to see him progress. Any way he falls to us in the 2nd?

I wish Barron would fall but I think a competitive team will take a chance on the high ceiling with a late first.

But I do wonder if LA is targeting one of the top d-men and will be making a draft pick play. If not, some will be available, but I just wonder who they like?

I assure you accuracy is not holding him back. Did any of you watch the Germany vs Swiss junior friendlys this summer? In the last minute of the last game with Germany down 3-2 Stützle came down the ice and picked his corner(top chedd) to tie the game and send it to OT. The games overall looked slow. Like a scrimmage in summer practice. Regardless it was still extremely clutch and accurate.

Overall Stützle's mechanics for his shot are good, adding power to it is necessary, but an NHL coaching staff with a shred of competency could add velocity to his snap/wrist shot easily and relatively fast compared to other skill development.

As for 7 goals in the DEL its pretty silly to limit a players potential based on what he actually got through as a 17 year old against 30 year olds. That's like saying Raynond will suck because he only put up 10 points with 4 goal. I see that the board values Raymond, so now just take a second to soak in how silly the emphasis on only 7 goals is. What is more important is shot selection. Where did his shots come from and what kind of scoring opportunity did he have. If his shots came from the corner I'd be inclined to agree, but they don't. Most of his shots come in high scoring percentage areas and he does not explicitly avoid shooting. That should signal to a compent staff that goals will come. He will never lead the leauge in goals like OV or Stamkos, he is still ultimately a playmaker not a sniper, but I'd put money that he scores 30+ a few times with development.

As for everything else it does not really matter, elite prospects rankings mean less than shit to NHL scouts. If he does actually fall that would be amazing, No offense to Ottawa, but I'd prefer a major market snags him. You might need a reality check if you think Yzerman will pass on him as his staff has already shown they hold competition in the DEL to a level most of the NHL does not(currently looks like they were right to). They love Perfetti, but they love Perfetti because they do not believe both teams would be dumb enough to pass on Stützle. Regardless, I do hope LA passes. It's kind of at a point where it would be cruel to take the kid fans are so against. At the first sign of struggle the fans will turn on him because he's not the pick they wanted.

Plus, I now do not want your franchise to benefit from his success. When Stützle is ultimately putting up elite point production I genuinely hope it's for a different organization. The inevitable elite production, well it should go to club that is both happy they got the talent and knew he was capable of it. It really does not matter if he falls to 25th I'm still very confident the elite skill and IQ of Stützle will make him elite. Probably my last post, so I won't bother you guys anymore with pro Stützle stuff. In the end at least I'm genuinely hoping the kings take Byfield as well now.

This guy definitely writes some fan fiction tales.

Not to split hairs because not like Drysdale, but i'm high on Spence, and there's still Durzi and longshot Strand.

Spence is flying under the radar...can't recall who or where I read someone saying "Jordan Spence is the best defenseman in the Q" wow. You'd think there would be a few 19 and 20 year olds standing out as the best defenseman in the Q.

The one that I'm pumped about is Kim Nousianen. He excelled in the WJT and think he was a top pairing some games...and was right there with Heinola...who somehow put up 5 pts in 8 games in Winnepeg, before going back to Finland. Nousiainen was also plus 2 in the WJT, top among defensemen on the Finn team. He can sure skate and has the offensive ability the Kings need on the backend. All these young, smaller D like Makar, Hughes and Heiskanen, are sure excelling to be among the elite D in the NHL. Hopefully, Nousianen is just a cut below those guys. From what I've seen, he can skate at that level...playing at that level in the NHL is another thing. But there's hope and promise to him for certain. 19 pts in Liiga last year as a rookie in that league is impressive. He has a Nov bday, so will be 20 in Nov. I hope he gets to 6'0 185, but if not, it's not holding elite skaters / skilled defensemen back at all.

No, it's not like that at all. Raymond was buried and getting limited minutes. His production was easily explainable. Stutzle was getting force fed top minutes including power play time on a powerhouse team vs questionable defenses and goalies who were AHL starters at best.

The emphasis isn't on 7 goals or shooting percentage in a vacuum. It's based on a clear weakness that's manifesting in low goal totals, even at the WJC. For as often as the guy got to waltz into the slot, he lacks that killer goal instinct. That friendly you're mentioning--I'll link it below. Yeah, that GWG was a snipe. Watch how often he feebly hits the goalie right in the chest in the remainder of the highlights. It's a clear problem. It's mechanically lacking. And never mind getting it off quickly in traffic, even wide open with time to think, it's a crest sniping muffin. As you say a competent development team will be there with him and if that's his biggest weakness big whoop because look how awesome everything else is, but no one is saying he's terrible, they're just splitting hairs between the #1-#3 picks.

The guy is a sublime skater and playmaker and clear top-tier pick. That doesn't mean he's flawless, or he'd be #1 free and clear. And that doesn't mean we hate him. Other posters just prefer other prospects, and this is an area of potential improvement for him. A tangible weakness. But a correctable one.

But as far as the LA doesn't deserve him because this board is mean crap...kick rocks with that. Yeah you made an account just to pump Stutzle. Maybe stop the persecution complex and try to understand and contextualize the criticizm.

I'm liking what you're saying R Jesus...the thing I don't like at all is the sub-par competition but you nailed it on so many fronts!!!

Pulling for K Nousiainen to become the next Kimmo Timonen! Kings just need for him to play a tonne and play and develop for the next 2-3 years before being brought over. I'm a huge proponent of bringing guys over later rather than sooner...it worked for Timonen(drafted in 1993, made his NHL debut in 1998) and became an excellent D-man...A player who worked on his strength despite his size and played a long(16 years) and successful(over 1100 games and nearly 600 point) career in the NHL...wish the Kings hadn't traded his right to Nashville and kept him...still I was a huge fan of his!!!

Wonder if Askarov falls some to mid teens if Blake tries to trade into the round to get him. Be nice to have a blue chip goalie prospect we don’t have to rush.
I like our goalie situation just fine...Quicker,Petersen,Villalta,Ingham,Parik,Hrenak! And even when Quick leaves, gets dealt for futures or is claimed by Seattle the Kings will still be in good shape...far better than 90% of the teams in the NHL from my vantage point! Rather LA take Byfield and then focus on getting some(2-3) scoring snipers off the Wing!

I think he plays in the modern NHL for a long time but I think guys like Hughes and Makar have sort of tainted to the positive our expectations and hopes for guys like Drysdale.
And that’s the irony of it all.

Hughes especially. The kid gets majority starts in the O-zone. And a couple games in the playoffs this year he was practically benched in the 3rd period.

Yeah, small flashy super skilled D can sure put up the highlight-reel goals, but at the end of the day go count how many of them are left in the conference finals and SCF.

Let’s see if the Hughes, Makar’s, Drysdale’s et al end up measuring up.

On defense, size still matters. Getting pushed off the puck matters. Gotta hit that 200# mark.

To me, Drysdale is not better a prospect than Tyler Madden - all the skill in the world but 150# wet.

Ok, Drama Queen. That quote would be funny if it weren't so pathetic. You sound like an immature child. Try to learn to control your emotions.

At the height of Drew's powers he was one of the best shutdown defenders in the league. As well as being elite in zone exits and entries. That is a true franchise defenseman. Out there when you need a goal and out there when you need to prevent one. There are not a lot of those anymore. Hopefully with a partner that isn't strapped to his back like a piano this season Drew will bounce back to where he was. It's really all mental and motivation with him, which you would expect better out of him. Unfortunately, he's never been the most mature guy in the room.

The new breed of defenseman that are all the rage are essentially lesser versions of Erik Karlsson. He was passable at defense maybe once or twice during his career. We'll see if the young guns ever become well-rounded.

From my perspective, you hit the nail on the head regarding Stutzle vs Byfield without taking into regard the physical element of the comparison. The Kings are LOADED with play makers. What I'm looking for in a #2 pick in the draft is someone who can, aspires to, and will bury the puck in the net. A scorer.

Regarding Stutzle's shot, I'm not convinced that there is a great deal that coaching will do to illicit even a moderate change. I think what is natural for Stutzle, is what we can expect to see when he has NHL level competition ready to knock his ass into next week. Stepping into that kind of competition, with skaters who can now keep up with him, he's not going to have the time to think to set up his shot. He will revert to what comes natural to him.

That, to me along with the physical aspect added in, is what separates Byfield in my opinion from Timmah!

Really really hope JQ ends up in the hall of fame but he's a longshot. But the above quals and winningest USA goalie ever...I just want him to wind down his career with a few really really solid seasons instead of being riddled with injuries.

Quick needs another few runs like Thomas had to be in contention. The US goalie records help but I don't think that's enough right now.

To be fair though none of the Kings prospects are as good of a playmaker as Stutzle is right now, in my opinion of course.

LOL...i don't blame them. They royally got screwed in the draft lottery this year. Not that i feel sorry for them whatsoever.

Meh, we got totally screwed last year picking at 5OA and still had arguably the best draft in club history.

Wings got 4 picks in the top 60 and there’s plenty good talent to be found there.

Besides, they got Bernier as their starter next season ...

How many cups do you have to win to get into the HOF?
If you want to do a HOF low-bar comparable I think Quick beats easily it would be Gerry Cheevers.

Also, it would be hard to convince me a guy like Ed Belfour has it all over Quick. The two are comparable in my mind.

Gerry Cheevers NHL statistics
  1. Games Played: 418 (1961-80)
Record: 213-102-74 (Impressive: His number of wins doubles the number of losses, but Boston was a powerhouse when he played for them.)
    GAA: 2.89
    SO: 26
    2 Stanley Cup champions
    1 All-Star game

Cheevers was a unique player because he, like other stars (including Bobby Hull) left the NHL for the new WHA in 1972. But unlike Hull and many others, Cheevers eventually wound up back in Boston where his NHL career began.

Do you forget, Token, how much us King's fans whined and complained leading up to last year's draft due to the lottery drop? LOL. Justifiably so. But it ended well (imo) because i'm pretty happy with Turcotte. I think we all will feel the same looking back on things 3-5+ years from now.

I said it before and I'll say it again. It sucked, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Ultimately, the well-run teams will continue to run well. The teams with poor management will realize they can't expect a No. 1 pick to save them.
