Why? What does it matter?

He is the captain of the team......that matters to me. If he was not the captain it would not matter to me. Messages are sent in many ways.....words and actions should send the same message. To me his message is that he is representing Red Bull and not the Leafs when giving interviews inside the Leafs dressing room. I see that as a issue.

How do you get that message when he's answering questions about hockey, after he just played hockey, while he's standing in the hockey locker room, in the hockey arena? The only thing that has to do with Red Bull is the hat he's wearing.

The question is not a literal question now is it?

It is about a message being sent......he as the captain should be seen wearing the Leafs hat while giving an interview in the Leafs dressing room after a game or practice.

Look at all the great captains we have had......and they have contracts with sponsors but you did not see them giving interviews wearing their sponsors hats.

What he wears on his head after he leaves the dressing room is his business......but while representing the Leafs it should be the Leafs he represents.

Actually it is a literal question. The title is "Who does Dion play for?'

You're extreme bias against anything Dion related is now bordering on ridiculous. I thought the "Dion is responsible for players getting traded" was bad enough.

Bordering?

I dont think the OP knows the meaning of endorsement. Hell the sticks and helmets they use are endorsements in which each player is getting a lot of money for. Every article of branded attire on every NHL player is exactly the same as Phaneuf wearing his redbull hat.

I understand endorsements.... what I do not like is the Captain is representing his own personal interests while representing the Leafs.....he is like the skiers who as soon as they finish and the camera is on them they quickly rip off their skis to show the brand that they use....

So let me get this straight, this bugs you?

So are you saying that since he is the caption of the leafs, he's not allowed to sign a sponsorship deal like other NHLers? Some players get more in sponsorship money then they do from their NHL contracts.

Captain or not he has the right to wear what ever hat he so choses. Next you are going to say that Dion Phaneuf must only wear hockey equipment that is no name

Unless he starts reading endorsement lines for Red Bull in the middle of his interviews, I don't see what the big deal is.

As soon as players wear hats as part of their equipment then maybe we can discuss that......

My issue is he should be wearing only the Leaf hat while representing the Leafs.....what he wears afterwards is his business.

Rogers owns the Leafs and the Jays, two different sport teams. Rogers has affiliations with both. However they are completely unrelated to each other so I don't care.

It starts at the top of the organization.
