I'm not saying he lacks skill, but I think his skill compared to the guys who are projected to be drafted around him is probably less.

I could be wrong.

I hear you. But watching him for a while, I'm not sure that's really the case. I think his skills are high-end, just more diverse.

Even if he doesn't have the absolute goal scoring ceiling of a guy like Wahlstrom, I don't think I'd consider his offensive ceiling to be too far off. The kid has the goods from a skills standpoint.

Maybe I'm crazy, but everything about what the org and FO has been saying this off-season has me thinking that Farabee is their guy. He's a character guy. Young captain. Two-way forward. Might not be the best pick of the draft, but will play in the NHL.

Taking him at 9 would be crazy. Trading down to ~13 and grabbing him there would be smarter, but still not ideal.

Trading up to take Tkachuk would be a nightmare.

Part of me really believes this brass is looking at Andersson and adding Farabee and believing they have their leadership group for the next core right there.

We've got what, two months before the draft? Might as well start hating each other now ;)

Same here. I can almost put money down that it's either going to be him or Kotkaniemi

Gorton just recently went out and said he thought the leadership was severely lacking this season. Farabee is future captain material

I'm just hoping it doesn't create any kind of discord between him and Lias going forward as they are both natural leader types

Which players specifically?
Can you give me a range of players you'd like me to dissect? Ex: Wahlstrom is obviously a better, more skilled guy, but I don't expect him to be there at 9.

From the top of my head, for forwards: Wahlstrom, Veleno. You could make the argument for Hayton, but I wouldn't. The two Finnish guys whose names I can't remember.

Not to mention the quantity of D-men that are also available in this range.

Unless Boqvist falls to us, I just have this feeling that the brass is going to be banking on the guys they acquired this season (Lindgren, Hajek, Rykov) and Pionk to bolster the D in the coming years. I don't necessarily agree with that, but I have an inkling that they are set on taking a forward with their first pick.

So basically Veleno, Kontkaniemi and Kupari + Dobson and Smith (I'm assuming Hughes and Wahlstrom are out of range.) I can buy it for Kontkaniemi and Dobson (which I agree with) but not the others.

I actually think Kontkaniemi is going to be their guy after the u18.

Wahlstrom is more gifted from a goal scoring standpoint. I don't think he's the better playmaker, and I don't think the overall offensive ceiling is higher.

With regards to Bouchard, Dobson or Smith, I think Farabee has a better shot to be a first line wing than they do of being first pairing defenseman. I think they're just a level below that.

I do not think Veleno's offensive upside is higher than Farabees, same with Hayton. If Hayton is an American kid, he's ranked in the mid-teens.

I would be very happy with this unless Boqvist is there. Sounds like he has first line center upside.

@Edge on that Farabee defense train

Gonna feel bad for him if we pick Farabee at 9, I guarantee 75% of his offseason posts will have “Farabee” in them.
I think it will be better than the Lias Andersson crucifixion. At least some posters are already prediction him as our selection, Lias was kind of a surprise.

I don't know if it's hands-down that Farabee is better, so much as in the mix. In other words, it's hard for me to come out and say something along the lines of "Farabee is head and shoulders better than Bouchard, Dobson or [Insert Name]." But on the flip side, I don't believe those guys are clearly better than Farabee either.

Wahlstrom is probably more naturally talented from a goal scoring standpoint. There's no getting around that. How that translates at a higher level remains to be seen. But outside of pure sniping, I think Farabee wins in some other areas.

I wouldn't put Farabee in the same category as guys like Hughes or Boqvist, but I'm not sure they're realistically there at 9.

I think so. I don’t know if everyone agrees with me. Given his skill level and his ceiling, and that he’s right-handed, I don’t see a better fit for what the Rangers are trying to do.
I don't think he will pass Ottawa, Arizona and Vancouver. If we want him we will probably will have to move up to at least the Arizona pick.

If Boqvist is still there at 7, is he worth trading a 2nd to move up and snag?

Depends. Who else is there as well? Has anyone gone off the board by this point (did MTL, for example, get antsy and draft a center far too early)?

The only two players I’d take over him him are Dahlin and Svechnikov. They won’t be there at 9...I’m fairly certain about that.

The concussion issues with Boqvist definitely concern me and I could easily see him dropping a few spots in the draft because of it. I don't think i'd be comfortable moving to 7 and losing a 2nd if he is still available.

If he's still there at 9, I guess you have to take him however.

Nope...see Edge ^^^
I agree that he's the second best D prospect (though my viewings are far more limited than others), but that doesn't necessarily mean he's automatically worth picking over a Tkachuk or a Wahlstrom – and nor does it mean that the concussions aren't a concern.

Historically, it's always been easier to find the #1D later than it has to find the top line scoring threat...

(Which is not to say I still wouldn't take Boqvist over the other two if the doctors are okay with him. Just saying it's not an easy decision for me.)

They need to trade up and draft talent and skill because I dont foresee them being this high again for the next decade or so. Next season would be the only one that can maybe get them back in the top 10, however, i think Gorton adds a couple free agent forwards to the roster, Brendan Smith comes back with a new lease on life, and this team competes for the final playoff spot. Thus, with the extra 1st round picks we have, surplus of wingers, we should make a move into the top 3-5

Changed my initial vote from Dobson to Farabee. Really like both players, but after the U-18's i made the switch. #28 has impressed me more then any draft eligible forwards in the first round not named Svechnikov, or Zadina.
