I'm not one to take opinions as gospel as an analytics guy, but every Flyers fan alive says this guy was a toilet fire.

He might be a decent coach, but his first go round was definitely ugly...can't imagine he's even been a thought.

the mission is clearly a dictator. every name out there we've spoken too or have credible sources linking interest has one thing in common...dominant personalities.

gallant, torts, roy, tocchett, possibly sullivan have a range of preferred styles of play, experience, degrees of success, personalities etc...but every single one of them has one unmistakeable quality: they are in charge.

to me that speaks volumes about what drury heard in exit meetings and why quinn was fired. this hire isn't about the youth, this is a direct shot at the veterans. they had it easy where they were given a voice and a long leash and time and again they faceplanted in tough games, not just with 0 impact in production, but no energy or presence or on ice leadership. this could still fail spectacularly, but there's at least decisive action being taken and consistency in the approach

I wonder if Dave Hackstool is someone they are looking at?

He is a good coach. Many coaches need a second chance, and with that said, I don’t think he ever had much to work with. I like that he is coming from Toronto that obviously is doing a lot of good things.

At the PC I will fling my stool,
if we dare hire one David Hackstool.

(I have no strong opinion on him, but I couldn't resist when I saw the typo...)

Gallant is going to want big money to coach in the NY situation . I can see him wanting 5 x5 seasons and I can see the Rangers Drury hesitating and attempting to save his owner a few million over a 5 year term . The fly in the ointment is the guy in Carolina . If he pulls out of Carolina....Gallant likely ends up in Seattle at 4x5 and BAM ends up with 3x5 in NY . Canes grab somebody cheap and the owner will be delighted .
The Hurricanes fans will riot if Brind’Amour leaves. It’s not happening.

Honestly, I think I'd almost rather Knoblauch or the guy from the SHL. Not super high on any of these fellas
It's already been said they want to bring in a veteran coach, so it's not going to be either of those. Who are also IMO terrible chocies. Why do we want Knoblauch? So we can play the same exact hockey as we did with Quinn? No thanks.

Larry saying that Quennvile has his sights set on Seattle. If that's true, does he not realize that there is a coaching vacancy in New York that is already better than whatever that Seattle team will be?

I am waiting till July 1, or Carolina is eliminated or Brind Amour signs. If we can get to him, make him an offer Dundon wont match,

Once lost, I go after Gallant. If he is gone, Tochhet, Babcock, Torts. I am toying with a Messier head coach and Tocchett associate head coach but not there yet.

Brind Amour is the only coach that I really want. The rest....Meh

i get brind'amour has built an awesome team in car and seems like an awesome guy to play for and is still the shiny new toy of coaches...but, am i the only one who's not sold on his fit here? i'm far from closed to the idea, but i get the impression everyone sees his success in carolina and applies the results here without any thoughts directed at the how he's achieved it there versus what he'd inherit here.

to be clear i'm not calling you out or intimating you don't have thoughts to that effect as a basis for your opinion - just hoping to use this as a launching point into some thoughts on that.

because what i see in car is a roster he had a massive influence in building, and it looks and operates far different than what he'd inherit here. carolina plays big, fast, and in your face physical. sure we can add those elements to the bottom 6 and almost certainly will do so by next season no matter who is behind the bench. but the top 6, guys like fox/lindgren/nils/jones on d - there's a lot of pieces that don't necessarily line up style/personality wise with how he's built carolina.

now nothing says he wouldn't adjust his systems around what he has to work with, maybe he took what was there and worked with mgmt to maximize what he saw as supporting the core in place best etc...i dont know. and nothing says he wouldn't be able to build relationships with guys at least i maybe struggle to see thriving with him that does allow that. but his personality to me suggests he has one style of play in mind, one mentality he wants his entire roster to play with. but i do think bringing him in would come with significant changes in short order - and maybe thats for the best. i'm just curious how those who are all in on bringing rod in / waiting until thats off the table before moving on - what it is that brings that degree of certainty/how you see him as a fit within this roster (assuming the top 6/top prospects are all still here come camp / if not, realistic moves that would address anyone you see not fitting). i'm not at all against the idea, but i'm interested in thoughts that address the hockey/roster side of how this works and what people see there

Imo the risk is waiting snd losing Gallant. He’s a very significant upgrade over Tochet snd Torts, and Messier and Babcock are significantly worse than the other options.

Gallant was very similar to Ray Ferraro and Verbeek.
Two of my favorite short-term Rangers. Wish we had kept those guys longer. Great players.
I know it’s a bit off-topic, but...

He had some very good years early on in his career, especially playing with Yzerman on the power play, in a few years his play veered off quickly but it didn't stop him from being a punk and jumping Paul Broten for the instigator, guess he just couldn't stand seeing Probert bloodied by Domi :D

Pens fans are not big Sullivan fans, say he doesn't adjust.

I suppose Pens fans were screaming at the coach for failing to hop onto the ice and adjust Tristan Jarry's absurd pass through the middle from landing directing on Josh Bailey's stick.

If they want to run him out of town, fine by me.

I should come here every day and just say Gallant.

What about Sullivan is so great? Can someone provide some information what makes him a good coach? He was a shoulder for Crosby and Malkin to cry on for a few weeks for one run and then the second run he had Bonino/Hagelin/Kessel forcheck everything in sight?

Tochett too. Can someone please explain to me why he's a good coach. What has he done. Hiring him would be like when the Rangers hired Ron Low in the early 2000s.

I want Gallant or Sullivan. Anyone else would be a letdown (unless it’s Rod the Bod but that’s a fantasy)

I am no expert but I think I like Gallant as well. Even if it does not work out long term, maybe he can get the team to play harder and with pace most nights.
