Id like to see a former player. Does not need to be a former ranger.

Amazing how people don't realize that you have to be a professional announcer to do play-by-play. It's an incredibly hard skill to develop. It should be obvious by how bad most of them are. I'd say Kenny Albert in a minute but he may find doing national games to be more attractive.

Kenny would do both Rangers and national games just like he does now with Rangers radio and TNT. Doc and Sam did it for years and years. Brendan Burke does it right now as well.

If Blais doesn’t work out on the ice, get him a medical marijuana card and let him do the commentary while stoned.

Sam Rosen, succeeded by Sam Blaisen.

Brendan Burke moving over to the Rangers broadcast would be great. He's fantastic at what he does...

This is what i expect until something else happens.
Like when they moved Joe over, from NYI broadcast team, when JD left.
Rangers are MSGN's main event and money maker, that will likely be MSGN preference

Brendan Burke moving over to the Rangers broadcast would be great. He's fantastic at what he does, and the reaction from isles fans would be great.

I would love this. So much in fact that I just texted an Isles fan friend to needle him about it.

In all seriousness though, Kenny will move to TV and La Greca will do radio full time.

Do we have definite candidates yet?

I hope we get to hear Sam for many more years but being in your mid 70s is usually a good indicator that time is not on your side.

No one. When he retires we can simply make him record his voice and a cute algorithm will do text-to-speech as the game goes on.

There are a few things that make good announcers:

1. A distinct voice (honestly, this is probably the single most important attribute outside of #2)
2. Pace. Know when to raise your voice, when to be excited, know when to chitchat
3. Ability to accurately identify situations rapidly and relay them. It gets easier down the line since announcers often rehash the same sentences thousands of times.

It won't be a player for PBP. They'll get a pro like Kenny Albert. If he doesn't want to so a local team I don't know who is out there. Sam should retire after this year. He's getting kind of embarrasing. And please have Joe "I've got nothing new to say" Micheletti with him

Kenny misses half his radio games because of National coverage. LaGreca is better anyway.

Not a fan of Kenny at all.. couldn't be more boring IMO.

Hoping for Burke at this point, he's very good

Seriously, one of the factors that makes Sam so great is that he sounds like a New Yorker, not someone with a generic American accent. The problem with so many other announcers are that they are interchangeable and generic. Sam’s voice screams “New York.” Hope they can find someone with that distinct NY “sound” to them.

Kenny is TNT's #1 play by play guy but also the Rangers primary radio guy. When Sam retires Kenny will do both just like Doc did for all those years with FOX/ABC/NBC and the Devils.

Another example is Mike Breen. He does Knicks and ESPN.

Is Kenny really the primary guy? Honestly feels like Don does more games. To me, he's the Rangers radio voice.

Just not a Kenny fan at all

This describes Doc Emrick to the nth degree
