It will mostly likely take much longer than that. That's a difficult position to become effective at. HF posters will likely go through some seasons of mocking him before he gets to Evans level.
I agree that's possible that it takes longer than 1-2 years. However, you still need to give him the spot. He is ready for the NHL, and will be better than Evans with time.

We'll be completely f***ed for a couple of years if we go with Suzuki, Dach and rookies up the middle. If we lose Evans, we'll need to trade assets to get another center while Beck and/or Kapanen learn the ropes in the NHL.

Keep in mind Dvorak's also gone after this year.

Newhook, not a rookie, will replace Dvorak, and we will be better than him on Day 1.

Yeah, there's no way they let Evans walk.
Evans is on a pace for 50 points... that's some elite two-way center with Selke caliber level of play. If the Habs wants to make the playoffs the next years, Evans is part of that solution.

He’s the Swiss army knife every team needs, definitely playing for a contract but if he’s available at a decent price and term i think he’ll be worth it.

Slaf is on pace the have the same season as last year or better. He is 20.

He had 12 points after 33 games last year. This year he has 20.
I find it hilarious that people are saying Slaf is slumping when he had 5 pts in 5 games before today and got a 2nd and 1st stars in two of those games. Slumping is not the word I would use.

Great news Montreal is 8-3 vs Atlantic Division, so far. Two of those losses were against the Bruins with Primeau in net, too. Last year, we were absolutely terrible against our own Division.
It's also the best record for intra-Atlantic Division games in point percentage. Leafs have more pts, but played more games. Habs had 5 wins against those teams last season.

Probably give Evans Dvorak money then? Call up Beck next season. Still cheaper than we paying Dvorak and Evans this season. Beck is on ELC

He’s been a mixed bag for sure. He can play better but he’s still doing good things. Some not so good things but for a 20 year old behemoth who often take time he’s doing well enough.

Evans is staying we need him.
You sir need to enjoy watching him play and winning faceoffs % playing well on the PK and get the most SH goals and scoring 5-6? games in a row...

He's pricing himself out of Montreal at this pace because this is the type of player you get to make a push. Giving a good 3rd/4th liner years and $$$ is exactly how we got in our shitty situation in the first place....The guy has an history of concussions and injuries to boot.

You give him 4 years at 4m? Because that's what his agent is gonna ask because another team will be willing to pay that? What would be your call in our current position?

We played a great weekend of hockey and BODIED Florida/TB back to back 9-2. It wasn't Buffalo, Detroit x2. We looked good doing it, didn't get many PPs either, we outplayed good/great teams!

But more patience is warranted...

Exactly.

He can up his level for sure and probably will but he’s nowhere near slumping. He’s doing fine. I don’t think those people are watching young players around the league enough.
