Speculation: Which teams are going to be sellers, and who/what it is on the market right now?

I really hope Mike Grier finds a way to trade Ceci for any late-round pick. Someone from the Kunin/Sturm pair will definitely be exchanged. I would like to keep Granlund if he requests a reasonable contract of 6.5 -7.0 million × 2 years. More time is unwise

I think it’ll take 3 years minimum to retain Granny; it gets tricky, but not impossible at 4. Our only players that will definitely be on the team in three years are Eklund, Zetterlund, Tofolli (as a soon to be UFA that year) and the three current rooks. Muk will likely also be on a bridge. Maybe Walman is extended for big money as well?

In 3 years, Granlund is almost certainly still one of our six best forwards, if we had four better (than alone 6), I’d be thrilled. Perhaps we sign a guy like Tuch, Ehlers, or Connor this season or next, and draft one of Hagens/Miss/McKenna, and all four youngins are better?

We’ll have the cap, as Dickinson, 2025 1st, 2026 1st (and surely one 1-2 other rookies) will all be on ELCs. Potential cap investments:

Celebrini $12M
Eklund, Walman, Granny, Smith $7M each
Tofolli, Askarov $6M each
4 Middle of the road guys $4M
4 rookies $1M each

$72M for 15 players, 8 guys for $3m average to get to $96M on the assumed $100M cap.

$14.5M off the cap the following year will be open with end of Tofolli, Granlund, and Hertl’s retention.

Isles (If Lou doesn't get in the way)

C-Brock Nelson
C/RW- Kyle Palmieri
C-Casey Cizikas
C-JG Pageau
LW-Anders Lee
LW-Pierre Engvall - Please :)
RD-Scott Mayfield
LD-Adam Pelech
G-Semyon Varlamov

Lou is such a principled, secretive, hardhead that he would actually let players like Nelson/Palmieri walk for nothing this summer than trade them (to actually, you know, help the franchise), because he only GM's one way - With a foot on the pedal at all times.

Barry Trotz was the best/worst thing that happened to the Isles in the past 20 years. He got an ok roster to the semifinals, so too many fans still think this team can get back with a few tweaks, when it really needs an overhaul.

Trotz was a special coach, and now that he's gone this aging/less talented roster is being exposed for what it is. And when you have a GM still going all in with a roster that isn't talented enough and aging, you are about to go into NHL purgatory for 5-10 years.
You have a better chance of getting coupons for a bodega than actually seeing Lou sell.

the Preds should sell, they have a lot of players that other teams would love to have.

I wouldn't have predicted that far) We definitely need a good signing on the free agent market. I would really like Rantanen, to have a link with Celebrini. But these are just fantasies. Greer is more likely to target Bennett or Ekblad.

Blackhawks are going to be sellers:
  • Taylor Hall
  • Connor Murphy
  • Ryan Donato
  • Alec Martinez
  • Pat Maroon
  • Craig Smith
  • Seth Jones- if he waives NTC and they eat part of his contract
I also think they will be buyers in terms of taking on contracts or being a 3rd team in trade in order to gain more picks. Its been Kyle Davidson MO for past 2 seasons.
Alec Martinez to Detroit be a good fit.

We're not moving Forsberg or Josi.
Or even O'Reilly. People probably need to re-calibrate their ideas that being a basement team automatically means "selling" because I suspect Barry Trotz isn't going to follow any such precedents. It actually would surprise me less if he "bought" some trade deadline veteran than if he traded just about anybody after Nyquist.

So yes, Nyquist probably has to be available. Although it also wouldn't completely shock me to see the Preds announce a 2-year extension even to him or something like that.

There are lots of players us fans would like to see made available in addition to Nyquist. (Sissons, Lauzon, Schenn, even O'Reilly or Saros in the right scenarios)... but I don't expect Trotz to trade any of them. Certainly he's not going to trade any of the big contract guys with NMCs.

The other guy I guess I could see moving is Thomas Novak, since the team is basically throwing him on the reject pile that Fabbro, Parssinen, and Tomasino landed on. He's a pretty good player, but I'm not sure he fits a playoff stereotype very well or that many teams will want to touch his contract, so that's probably the only thing keeping him from moving.

If Chicago is selling I’m sure Guerin would be in on Maroon. He could add some needed speed to our top 6!!

The Penguins will probably, but not definitely, trade Marcus Pettersson away.
We may also add, either with the Pettersson trade or in a separate trade.

Trotz just came out and thinks we can still make the playoffs. Point being is he stinks so he will probably keep all of those guys and trade off our prospects.

Flyers should sell some parts.

But probably still won't thanks to God Emperor Torts.

Erik Johnson is the only pending UFA and he hasn't been playing. Laughton has interest and 1 year left at $3 million but the Flyers are doing everything in their power to find a way to not trade him out of sheer stupidity.
