Do you think some of the posts that are totally egregious and just plain wrong ever rile them up to the point where they want to create an account and retort?

Can you imagine if you found a whole group of strangers randomly talking about you and just being way off base or making up rumors.

I think it would drive me bonkers. Or maybe I would find it funny. Not sure.

Compared to 20+ years ago (before message boards), athletes never had to deal with this sort of thing.

no. they have that and have always had that forever. they are used to it
i.e. people calling them out, saying they worthless etc

Usenet has been available to the public since 1980. If you want to see a little of what it was like, I recommend visiting this thread. And before Usenet, there were bulletin board systems.

I feel like any posts/rumours they would read on here would be much more intelligent than the ones they'd find watching youtube videos of themselves or reading facebook comments on NHL/TSN/NHL network posts... man those are awful
