Which Canadian Team Will Go the Farthest?

You just got called out in the mtl boards for your Charles Hudon being undeniably better than Mesar, you may want to circle back and re-asses your arguments.

With a name like Garbageyuk... there's no way you're a habs fan. You sound like a hater to be honest.
Charles Hudon, age 20 season, AHL: 75 gp, 19g, 38a, 57p

Filip Mesar, age 20 season, AHL: 37gp, 3g, 12a, 15p

You were saying?

I am not really a "bring the cup home to Canada" guy. I feel no obligation to cheer for the last Canadian team standing.

That being said, I'm kind of sick of the whole "Canada hasn't won the Cup in over 30 years" and wointuld like that to go away. I have no real issues if another Canadian team other than the Leafs accomplishes that feat. So, I'm kind of drifing into the "bring it home" camp just so people shut up about it.

Especially this year, since -- assuming Montreal makes it -- there is a distinct path to an all-Canadian final four. Now, I'll admit that's it very unlikely to happen but as along as it's a possibility, I think I'll be cheering for that just because I think it would be fun.

It's the NHL playoffs, anything can happen.

Jets. Unless Leafs and Sens face each other in the 1st rd they’re probably the only one to get out of the first round.

I don’t think any of them make it past the second round at this point tbh unless McDavid is healthy enough to play like last year.

Mostly agree. I don't give a damn about Canadian teams carrying some hypothetical flag for each other. Just let MY team win!

That said, the storyline would be off-the-charts funny with an All-Canadian Final Four. Sign me up!

160 posts and counting and this hasn’t completely come off the rails which is impressive given the passion from all fan bases involved. Also some solid humor too. I am not much of a Canadian based team being a thing type but its a fun thread.

Qualifying this post by saying who the f*** knows really but I will make my best bad predictions.

I think the 4 Nations experience will help both Brady Tkachuk and Mitch Marner this post season.

I wonder if Florida has it in them this post season based on the wear and tear of two long runs to the finals the past two seasons?

Montreal has a vibe to them lately. Is it just a really hot streak or is it more? Hutson has ignited the fan base.

Ottawa finally breaks through to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016-17 and what feels like a really long rebuild. I don’t have much of a feel for them, but I am really looking forward to seeing what that young group can do (same as the Habs).

Oilers came so close last season and they are now that team that can pace themselves through a season and be good enough to flick the switch. I really think it may come down to the heath of their big two. If they are both healed up then I think they would be my odds on favorite as far as The Canadian based teams go.

This has been the best I have felt about the Jets going into the playoffs. So much so that I bought additional playoff tickets for this post season for the first time in the 2.0 era. The tone of the team has been different since before the season started, the usual rhetoric from the owner on down is “let’s make the playoffs and anything can happen”. This past off season Arniel said the team to a man were embarrassed about last years playoffs and everything they were doing this season was getting ready for game 83. Talk is cheap and sure I will believe it when I see it but they have been playing that way since the 1st game of the season until now. Way more bought in to team defense and structure. That being said I have never felt less pumped about their bracket. I assume it’s Jets, Dallas, Avs, Blues which sucks. Jets could have a good playoff and not get out of the 1st round again.

I feel the Leafs might be in the best position in the Matthews era to get out of their division. Their tormentor (Bruins) has faded, Bolts are really good but not at their prime level. Love Florida but they are banged up and do they have enough for a 3rd run in three years? Ottawa will be a big test if that is who they meet in the 1st round. Still, all in all I don’t hate their bracket like I usually do. My concern is Matthews health. He hasn’t seemed right to me at least this season.

If you are a gambler the smart money will bet the opposite of my predictions.

The correct answer is the Oilers.
Their stars are well rested and the defense is better this year.
Leafs and jets should make it further this year but it's hard to say with their history.

Tell me how Hellebyuck will perform and I’ll tell you which Canadian team goes the furthest. It should be Winnipeg as I love how they’re built, but if the ‘tender soils the sheets again, she’s over early.

Logic tells me Toronto as the East is wide open. The West, especially the Central is Murderers Row. Edmonton is all over the place this year. It would surprise me no more to see them in the SCF than it would to watch them get bounced in the 1st round by the Kings.

Best to worst chance.
1: Jets
We will see what happens tonight against Dallas but every time the Jet play a big game they show up with their A games and dominate the game. If they play their A game throughout the POs they have a good chance to win it all. If not and they go out easily in the first round again, than the Jets have huge questions to answer about their core players going forward.

2: Leafs
This years team is by far the most complete Leaf's team since they signed the big 4. Also the Eastern Conference is not as dominating as it was in the past. If the Leafs are ever going to win or at least go on a long PO run this is the year. If not and they go out in the 1st round again then the Leafs have a "culture" issue, not a talent issue.

3: Oilers
They been mediocre all season but if they can put it all together in the POs they can win it all. Can they turn that switch on a dime is the big question and if they play LA again are the Kings due to defeat them. If the Oilers win the WCF they will win the cup. Last years experience will take them over the top.

4: Habs
I put them over Ottawa simply because the Habs have a history of limping into the POs and then go on a run so I will give them the benefit of doubt but don't think they have much of a chance to get out of the first round. If the Habs do win the first round is this another situation of "here we go again?"

5: Sens
The POs will be new to their young core and no matter what happens this PO season the experience will be very valuable for the team for seasons to come. Can they win a round this year. Yes, but I doubt they will go any further. But the experience should really help the team next season to become a top team in the east.
