Where do you see this team?

Could see them getting swept or winning a round or even two if the matchups are a little lucky.

Lack of secondary scoring will likely hold them back from more than that. We have a handful of guys who score the vast vast majority of points. Generally that doesn’t pan out in the playoffs.

The absolute biggest factor though is Laf and Kakko. I absolutely refuse to believe this is all they can do. The team needs to put a very very serious priority on helping them figure it out. They would be the biggest “adds” we could make and them playing well as the team goes into the playoffs changes the outlook dramatically
If this team makes a run in the playoffs it will be because the vets stepped up, just like they have all season. We have enough vets like Kreider, Zibs, Panarin, Strome, Trouba and Goodrow to be competitive and add in the potential of Igor winning a couple of games for us with his goaltending I don't think winning a round or 2 is out of the question. Nothing is a lock but I am not as pessimistic as some of you are in terms of at least winning a round.

They need another top 6 forward like a Giroux , Pavelski or JT Miller. Miller preferably.

Balances out what Gallant can do 5 v 5 where we have been lacking the most.

As it stands now i think they can beat Pittsburgh or Washington in a 7 game series. Carolina not so much, i think they are the Eastern Conference favorite. If things break right and the Canes get taken out in R1 the Rangers have as good a shot as anyone to make it to the Final, then all bets are off.

Even so, the window is open now and the core they have in place is championship caliber. I think they need to add a top 6 forward with an edge to his game, and a top 4 D to take the load off Fox (hopefully Chychrun) to take the leap into being a legitimate favorite

Probably win in round one if they finish 2nd in the Metro . We can handle both the Caps and or Penguins easily enough with an upgrade on Nemeth and another RW to bump Kakko down in the pecking order . If and I know a big if...Blais gets back....that's really helps . Hope for the best !

There’s not really an option that encapsulates my opinion. They are a solid playoff team that under other circumstances would make sense to buy.

For this team though they have a future that isn’t solidified that they owe it to themselves and the fans to continue to foster.

Combined with the fact that they are not a true contender and are extreme long shots to win more than a round or two, the prudent but unconventional approach is to continue to sell off pieces that are only win now pieces (and refrain from renting).

They need a god damn young center or two that can score and play a two way game. And another young winger if not Kravstov.

A lot of our vets who do the majority of the scoring thrive playing pond hockey, which doesn’t fly in the playoffs. Kreider, Trouba and Goodrow are built for playoffs I’d say. Not sure on the others

Carolina, Florida and Tampa all ahead of us and they all will add at the deadline. This team isn't ready until Laf, Kakko, Miller , Schneider and Jones/Robertson are ready.

Ergo they should accept this and roll into it for maximum value.

Maybe send a Strome TO one of those teams for a center prospect.

As much as I'm pissed at this team right now, the Rangers have an above .500 (NHL .500) record without Shesty. And it's not like Georgiev has been amazing all season.
I don't care about small sample records with a backup that performs sporadically.

The Rangers have won an xG battle once since December 1st. They would sink like a rock with Georgiev in every night.

Deep run depending on how you define “deep”. They can do a lot of damage in the playoffs if things break right.

I'm borrowing your answer, hope you don't mind.

I could see anything from one and done to a long spring, anything passed round one is gravy.

I'm guessing you're ignoring PP because it fits the narrative. The Rangers have been infuriating but you cherry picking stats to make them even worse than they are isn't helping things either.

Carolina, Florida and Tampa all ahead of ...

I agree this is where NYR is today in East

Great progress, to now suddenly be neck and neck, with the aging Cup winners(Pitt, Wash, Bruins) and the "impressive except when they ain't, which seems too often" Leafs

I hope they resist overpaying for rentals.
A longer-term key add, like a Chychrun, and/or a similar age (or younger) C, w comparable upside, could be worth price though.
Or even a shoot-first young wing, I'd do Nils for a guy like Podkolzin. None of Kakk, Laf, Fil or Gauth, even Barron, seem to have that as a strength.

When I said the Rangers haven't won an xG battle since December 1st, I wasn't talking about even strength!

But yes, also even strength.

Didn’t they get crushed in xG last night? At some point it may be worth questioning if they’re simply an outlier to some degree
