What do you think the Kings best option is?

None of the above. You seek a logical trade to bring in a Stoll/Greene trade....You certainly don't go all in now...

huh?
Sign or trade for some random vets on the market for cheap for filler roles/leadership.

Isn't that what most Fans want, at least according to this poll? These "vet fillers" can potential play big roles when we are ready to make a push.

Vets signed as fillers is not the same as trading or signing Stoll and Greene types. We need long term talent, not short over the hill types to gap...Maybe add that as a additional option and it would probably get traction.

I guess the word random is misleading then. Williams was a random pick up of an injuried player. Nobody thought we got a playoff mvp at the time.

Mitchel had concussion issues nobody touched him in free agency. Another random risky signing for us.

GMs with vision and willing to take some risk find these types of players.

Williams was specifically targeted by DL as a must-have player. If you're arguing we didn't know how valuable he would be then fine, I certainly didn't, but DL wanted him badly. Mitchell had offers from other teams he chose LA. He was definitely more of a risk, but DL had to give a great pitch to get him.

-Fire the coaching staff since we are back to neanderthal hockey
-Bring in a young energetic coach with modern visions
-Trade away the old baggage who are not able to take over a game (Kopitar, Brown) and ask if Doughty would waive.
-Stay course with youth development and build towards a modern speedy team

As a lifelong Whalers fan who celebrated the Canes first Cup almost as hard as the Kings, yeah, I can tell you that there were a few of us who loved the hell out of that trade immediately. It wasn't a majority by any means, but it was a fun thread.

Anybody else have no interest in bringing AA back?

I would expose him for expansion without a second thought. Lots of talent there, but always seemed like he was more interested in building up his video reel for his next contract than playing for the team. Maybe you can't blame him in this set of circumstances, but it was a little unseemly.

Kings are going to have so much veteran character and grit! They'll average 1.1 goals per game but at least we'll get some leadership! Those vets will lead us to the golf course!

This team desperately needs goal scorers and gamebreaking talent. Same old story. Pretty pathetic when being a 15-20 ranked offense would be considered a massive improvement. Kings were 27 last season. Every season it's the same thing and it's getting worse, Kings can't score. Last season was by far some of the worst hockey I've ever seen, absolutely dreadful and unwatchable. Get some scorers. Kings don't have a single offensive player remotely considered a gamebreaking talent. When Adrian Kempe is considered your best offensive player, your team is destined to be among the worst in offense. In December everyone will be complaining that Quick gave up a softie in a 2-0 loss to Anaheim. "Kings were in that game until Quick played the puck!1!1!"

Can’t really vote because the FO doesn’t lay out a clear plan for the future but given Blake’s low risk approach to things and also agreeing with Doughty that the Kings need to get back to the playoffs. I’m voting signing some low key veterans. A defenseman and probably pick up Hyman and/or Granlund, maybe a low cost trade to upgrade the wings for Kopitar/Byfield.

So over 2/3s of the posters on this poll agree that the Kings need to bring someone via trade or signing.

I"m sure a few more agree but I've got some fun company with me at "fire mclellan and yolo" so I couldn't resist

Well, it's just emblematic that the Kings need everything. Not just culture, not just scoring, etc.

But surely we have more talent than showed (ie shouldn't finish worse than the previous year) and we need some drive and piss and vinegar behind that too. I liked the Lemieux move. I'd love me some Blake Coleman.

I expect the Kings will be worse this coming season. I think 21-22 is going to be a real bottoming out year. Capitulation.

Looks to me the direction that managament is taking is option 2 maybe with 3 sprinkled in:

Getting vets without giving up developing prospects, so the prospects continue developing while the roster gets better.

I like what Blake is doing so far, acquiring under 30 vet while not giving up any prospect, just picks. Maybe I'm greedy and we don't have enough roster spots for them all but for the prospects that are trending up to a possible NHL roster spot soon, I really really don't want to give up any youngster that we have put significant dev time in on.

That's why when people so easily say Vilardi will be in some deal, no matter a top six player or a first line/franchise player, I'm all like NO. The 8OA, ok sure maybe, depends on the return, but Vilardi is a NO.

Amen to that.

Our Vets are going nowhere since they lost the ability to take over games.
At this point we might as well bench them.

The point of hockey is to put a puck into the opponents net.
We tried everything else but that the last years and found ourself at the bottom of the league.
All of our center youngsters are elite playmaker. If we don't pair them with goal scorers, we better take a look at Calgary and what happens when your wingers are playmakers as well.
Moving our young centers to wing is a pipe dream.

Well Damn it! How many times do we need to tell Quick to keep his ass in the net and that he is not Mike Smith!

I'm hoping they can pick up a few decent NHLr's from cap strapped teams. I think the team does need some character guys and more leadership. I love Kopitar but he shouldn't be the captain and if he's going to remain captain then they need to supplement his leadership from another source.

I'm cool with a trade of picks/prospects if it results in the Kings getting a good young player in return. I don't think that scenario is likely. I don't want to see the team's stockpile of futures gutted for a short term fix. I will say that the nose dive in the final two months of the season was a tough pill to swallow when you consider how some of the younger guys were regressing and seemingly not caring/trying.

^ The team needs a swift kick in the ass, at least compete every night. The only memorable thing in the last 20 games and the only reason I kept watching was Kopitar's 1,000 point watch. The team was so miserable, so boring, and so uninterested in the middle of a supposed "playoff stretch run". Total garbage hockey.

A lot of people are still wanting our vets moved I see. Now it’s because they can’t take over games. Wow.

Kopitar carries this team on his back in a nightly basis. He is our offense. For a reward he gets paired with a college free agent in Iafallo who I love but is not an offensive juggernaut and Dustin wobbly legs Brown who is one of my favorite Kings of all time but has rode in Kopitar’s coattails for years. Brown led our team in goals while spending half the year laying on the ice it seemed. Now is he the problem or is the problem there is no secondary support at all on this team. All opposition have to do is key in on shutting down Kopitar.

There are few players in this league that can solely take over games in a nightly basis. We have McDavid who has Leon, Mackinnon has a supporting cast of stars, Prime Crosby still had Malkin taking heat off him, the 100 million dollar Lighting have Kutch and a supporting cast led by Stamkos.

I was against an Eichel move but it would be great to see him here to give Kopitar better deployments. The guy is a true Star in this game, plays the game right, takes the shit assignments, line mates and still is PPG and Selke worthy.

we don’t have him and we are worse then the Sabres year in, year out

well said man

When I consider this Kings team was in the playoff hunt, with 2 weeks to go in the season there is hope. When you consider they probably had the worst second line in the league,
it's amazing they were in the hunt. Starting the offseason by acquiring Arvidsson, is a step to upgrading the top 6. If Blake can get 1 more top 6 forward in here, (age 28 or under)
without giving up Byfield, I think the Kings will be a playoff team.

In order to be a playoff team again, will also require a few players to really step up and emerge this year; like Trevor Moore did this year and Matt Roy do the year before. Maybe it will be Lias Andersson...maybe Vilardi truly emerges. Maybe Byfield really steps up and adds 40 pts. Or 1 of Kupari, Turcotte, Kaliyev makes it and contributes. Maybe Tkachyov surprises? (and not the kind of surprise of throwing his stick with the puck on it, past a goalie)

There were a few players last year that were horribad - Amadio was terrible. MacD was pretty brutal on D and the record when he played was eye opening...or more like face palming.
Carter was terrible and played very uninspired hockey. He and Vilardi made less plays together all year, than Kucherov and Point make in 1 game. I don't get how Carter goes 8 goals in 40 games with the Kings and then scores 9 in 14 games with the Pens. Get this; his shooting % with the Kings was 6.8 and then 24.3 with the Pens. WTF? Sure, better talent around him, but that's such a huge difference. With all of these 4-5 new hires in the Kings front office...and that other analytics guy they have, (don't know his name) the 5-6 of them should go over all footage of Carters games with the Kings and the 14 reg season + playoff games with the Pens. Why? Because determining the huge chasm of the putrid to near spectacular, therein lies the problem with the Kings and their offense.

DD said "I like our defense" While it would be nice to add a top pairing LHD, there really are none out there. Morgan Reilly may be worth a look, as to acquire. But it's the top 6 that is needed an upgrade to take the Kings back to the playoffs. I honestly believe 1 more top 6 forward may all that is needed to propel the Kings into the playoffs....coupled with never playing MacD on D again and a few players having 'coming of age' seasons.

I would also like to see the Kings add some physicality / warrior types. Sign Blake Coleman, or someone like that.

DD, love his spirit, but I disagree with him here. We also need an upgrade on defense this summer.
I will add that a top D might not be available this summer via trade, but a Vet D with size that can slot in the top 4 at times... we really need. Bjornfot and Anderson still need time and on a 82 game season it will be a grind for these young guys. Expect some regression possibly in the 2nd half of the year. The'll get better when they physically mature in the comming seasons.

Look for Oleksiak or a similar type that can play the physical game and slot in the top 4 at times. Manage the kids minutes and provide some cover when playing big physical teams. We are too soft on the back end.

Couldn't disagree more.

Kopitar gets 10 mill per year.
This is 90+ points on a consistent base, salary.
In reality he is a 70+ point player but i will hold him accountable for 90+ points since he asked for 10 mill.
Why someone agreed to this contract is far beyond me.

There is also the dreadful hockey style of entering the o-zone already at the board and dump the puck into the corner.
Not many people store when pinned to the boards.
Vilardi is an incredible creative playmaker. If we can find him someone who can shoot the puck into the net, we are golden.
Someone like Rantanen comes to my mind, someone who can defeat a goalie even without screening the goalie
