I think theyve got a few wins they shouldnt have because theyre actually decently talented now. The penalty kill has absolutely killed them, moreso than the PP has helped them.

Understood. But Yzerman clearly needs elite talent to anchor the core he’s built. Those guys rarely come up in trade. With Pettersson’s clear (recent) struggles there could be a trade there. How else does Yzerman get his Eichel?
Nope, they need to run with this guy, and it was from the moment he signed his contact that he fell off the map and his game tanked. There is zero chance I would give up Raymond plus for him, because for me, as of right now, Raymond is the better player. (Until EP gets his game back at least)

Are the Wings willing to move Larkin in a trade for Pettersson? Because that's what it would take.
Trading Larkin would and should be last on the list of things to be done for Detroit. Stuck through the entire rebuild and now the team captain, he's signed for nearly $3M less than Pettersson for another 3 years after this one. Frankly, I think he's very underrated around the NHL
