I think many of us have seen this picture before, Leafs win a big game only to be no shows the next game. I gave up around the 14 min mark of the 3rd, turned the channel to watch the Jays close out ChiSox.

When did you change the channel?

Left the game in the background at 4-1 but went back to full attention at 4-2. It was hard to not feel disheartened after that first period. 2nd was much better, but that 4th goal was painful. I'm glad they made a fool of me! I've never been more happy to be wrong

I listened to the first 2 periods in the radio, didn’t sound good. Got home and watched the epic comeback/Tampa meltdown. This team is frustrating

How can you stop watching?

Last year a friend of mine turned off a game and I torched him. Probably went to bed in the 2nd last night.

Checked out emotionally after 4-1. Thought of pausing it and watching it later, but decided to let it run and have it as background as I did some work. 4-2 goal got my attention because they were playing better and there was lots of time to scrape together another goal or 2 considering how they came back the last game.

Literally looked up at the screen when Brodie made that weird backwards pass to Nylander coming off the bench. It was so out of character for him, high risk, but it worked. Then classic Matthews shot for the 4-2 goal. After that I just watched the game with my mouth open.

I'll be honest, after the 2nd period my 3 month old son was being fussy going to bed so I told my wife I would just stay up and rock him to sleep as I wasn't motivated to watch the 3rd anyways (despite a better 2nd period). Well he finally settled so I figured why not go down and watch the 3rd and missed maybe 4 minutes. Stunned! But I also know I would have turned that TV back on after seeing they pulled within 1.

I didn’t watch the 3rd. I was fast asleep. I was up at 4 AM yesterday and the day was already very long and being down 4-1 playing the way they were didn’t inspire confidence.

Biggest regret ever to do with the Leafs. Now I’m not missing a game even if I have to glue my eyes open haha.

If it was a game 7, would have turned it off after they went down 4-1 but I left it on and was still skeptical after Matty made it 4-2. Didn't think Tampa could blow leads late two games in a row but when they did, thought no way they lose it in OT.

Was at my own beer league game, had my phone on the bench and was giving both teams updates.
I remember saying to my buddy on the team as I was leaving (4-1 after 2 periods), "well, now we get to watch the comeback at home!". I said it with a confident smile, not truly believing it but always with that pure optimism in my heart. My buddy wasn't having it, and just shook his head and smiled.

Watched the entire third period and saw every epic goal of the comeback.
These are the days when everything is paid back to the faithful fan . . .

Gotta keep the faith man.

I was still watching but was entirely distracted and emotionally unavailable. That was the strangest feeling I’ve ever had watching that comeback. They disgusted me and then it was waves of desire.

This was me as well.

50 minutes of Tampa outhustling us. /sad
4-1 goal - that’s a big hole to climb out of.

4-2 - meh. meaningless goal. nice pass. can’t get too excited.

4-3. That was quick. Nice tip Matthews.

4-4. JFC. Mo again.

5-4. WTH just happened.

Watched all the way through, of course. Not sure how any fan could turn off playoff hockey.
Same. I watch pretty much all Leafs playoff games the whole way through and that goes for playoff hockey in general. First round of NHL playoffs is almost always the best. 3-4 games a night, lots of games where you don't know what will happen and plenty of great overtime hockey magic.

NBA playoffs on the otherhand isn't nearly anywhere as exciting and in recent years I've only ever watched up until the Raptors get eliminated and then ignore the rest of those playoffs entirely. Seeing the refs continually screw the Raps over time and again has made me lose almost complete interest in the NBA these days.

What does it have to do with being a masochist or anything other than a dedicated fan?

I didn't turn it off. Why even bother watching the game then, if you are that set that they are going to lose or disappoint you? Is there really that many people who want to quit on this team so easily? People can't be this fragile?

I was watching the game with someone who was complaining about Matthews not being good this series (or last year in the playoffs), wondering why they don't put Zohorna in the lineup ('cuz he's big), wondering why they started Samsonov or didn't pull him for Woll ("they should really let Woll have the net"), stormed off after the 2nd. Came back to the game about 6 minutes into the 3rd though...... This is someone who is old enough to have seen a few cups.

I always flip channels or do something else during intermission (no interest in the talking heads) but after many years, without even paying attention to the time I pretty much always have the game back right for the drop of the puck.

Last night however I took some extra time and missed the first ~4 minutes of the 3rd.
