He was .919 games 2-6 last series.

Yep, games 2-6 he had a .919 SV% and a 2.42 GAA. Include last night in that and he's got a .910 SV% and 2.69GAA since the debacle and outlier that was Round One Game One.

In the regular season Ilya had a .919 SV% and a 2.33 GAA. He's only one great game away from having numbers like that (again, if we exclude game one from the previous round). He's shown he can have those great games in the playoffs and make the big stops when it counts. If he has a poor showing tomorrow and we're down 0-2 in the series I'll start being concerned. Until then I'll continue to have faith in Sammy and humbly request that our defence gets its shit together.

He stole game 6 VS Tampa no question about it.

That was regular season Samsonov that's the guy they need.

So the back breaker then.

Whatever point you tried to make you just failed.
You need to watch the 4th goal again. It hit ROR and redirected into the side of the net.

Wasn’t his fault Leafs lost last night. Goalie blame is always such a strange contemporary device that overlooks more chronic issues.
Did the team really look ready to system the free wheeling panthers into a game one loss? Not really. The team played well but there was quite obviously a lack of focus from some key guys that cost the team goals. If they don’t fix that stuff it might not go too well and we will be left blaming the goalie again like every single year.

Yeah, the Leafs were alright in that game. They pushed. Florida pushed. They got some bad bounces and things didn't break their way. They did for Florida. Bob made some big saves. Didn't seem like a particularly designed or focused game other than maybe a regular season plus kind of game.

Florida plays wild. The Leafs biggest tactical adjustment will be how do you exploit their tendencies when they go full track meet mode or how do you disrupt their transition before it starts.

In the regular season he was great, but ever sense the playoffs started he's been awful.

3.29 GAA

894 save%

Some of you, most of you will make the excuse that either

A "It the defense" and no It's very VERY not, It's not the defense when he's allowed 3+ goals 5 times in 7 games and has an under 900 save% once you start pushing 890, and he's closer to 890 than he is to 900 it becomes a goalie issue.

Or B "he's hurt."

I have no doubt that's true Who cares? so is everybody else at this point so that's not an excuse, there is not ONE player that is 100% at this point, and I don't just mean the players left playing I mean EVERYBODY but even the players that didn't make it played 82 games.

Injury is not an excuse when everybody else is injured to.

He simply needs to be better that's all there is to it, they were good enough to win last night.

He wasn't.

The end result does not justify your premise. You have to get through 5 skaters to get to the goalie. Sammy hasn't stolen any games and the team has no done our Cup aspirations any hopes, with the loosey goosey play in front of him, we give up far too many high danger shots, far to many SOG and we are often chasing the game, which means we take offensive chances at the expense of good defensive posturing. There have been games where Sammy is over playing the puck, far too active, there are games where we do stupid stuff and allow the other team grade A chances. I'd like to see Sammy's GA go down too but that starts with the guys in front of him,

If by some act of god we get by Florida, Carolina and LV are far better talent, coached and prepared we'd get eaten alive, as a whole team we need to be better.

Sammy lost us game 1.

He also won us the series against Tampa in hame 6.

I think he bounces back tonight.

This obituary is a tad early.

When one’s team’s goalie is great and the other is “just ok” then you can 100% blame goaltending for the loss.

It doesn’t mean Sammy can’t bounce back or that we can’t win this series but Sammy lost us game 1 by every metric.

Shooters need to be better, Team needs to play better defensively.
Goalie could be better sure, they always can but the loss wasn't 100% on him.

I could have word it differently but the combination of Bob being great and Sammy being mediocre was the difference in the game.

Sure but Vasi was garbage last series, does that mean the leafs only won because we outgoalied them and got bounces? That’s what Jon Cooper and Stamkos think but I don’t want to believe that.

I think your thoughts on Samsonov are cuckoo cuckoo bananas.
Dude won 3 OT games and 3 games in TB getting us to round 2.
The clinching game in TB he was the difference.

Game 1 round 1 he was not good. The rest of the series he was excellent in a very pressure filled environment.

Enjoy, don't hate.

Well that’s what happened last series. Haha

But it happened to us many times, that’s playoff hockey.

The boys will get to Bob, I’m confident in that.

Why does every single loss have to be the end of the world? He's not going to get 4 shutouts. This isn't the dead puck era with Jacques Lemaire behind the bench.

Scoring is way up around the league, just look at the number. 3.00 gaa is almost good now

He's had a very up and down playoffs so far.
Questionable performance overall, and he's really hurt us early in some games, but he's also been really solid in some of the most critical moments.
And sometimes, that's what you need the most. It's what we've needed the most for years.
Hoping he bounces back tonight.

He is not a legitimate starting goalie, imo. of course those types will get exposed in the playoffs playing good teams night in night out. Not sold on him beyond this season. Leafs need to find a legitimate starter.

Seriously? If he's not legitimate starter then who is? Give me a list of who you'd take before Samsonov. And then your plan on getting one of them?..... They don't grow on trees. Good teams won't give them up, rebuilding teams don't have them. If you do happen to find one available they aren't cheap to acquire or in cap hit

Not to mention the assets you'd use to get them. Trade picks? Late firsts don't do much, prospects? outside of Knies it's pretty bare. A core piece, that will go over well. asking a NMC player to waive, nope.

Exact same thing I said about Morgan Rielly all year. Name 32 defenseman better than Morgan and how you plan on getting them.

The NHL isn't franchise mode in a video game.

Wins and losses often boil down to the Goalie as the last line of defense. However the Leafs in front of Sammy hung him out to dry and played a fairly poor game in front of him defensively.

The numbers are the numbers they can't be disputed.

I don't hate Samsonov, I just want the Samsonov we saw all season and this isn't it, not even close.

Tuesday night vs Columbus, Anaheim, Chicago, Montreal, San Jose, and Arizona who have no offense and are trying to lose is not the same as 6 games vs Tampa Bay with 3 hall of fame forwards.
