In the regular season he was great, but ever sense the playoffs started he's been awful.

3.29 GAA

894 save%

Some of you, most of you will make the excuse that either

A "It the defense" and no It's very VERY not, It's not the defense when he's allowed 3+ goals 5 times in 7 games and has an under 900 save% once you start pushing 890, and he's closer to 890 than he is to 900 it becomes a goalie issue.

Or B "he's hurt."

I have no doubt that's true Who cares? so is everybody else at this point so that's not an excuse, there is not ONE player that is 100% at this point, and I don't just mean the players left playing I mean EVERYBODY but even the players that didn't make it played 82 games.

Injury is not an excuse when everybody else is injured to.

He simply needs to be better that's all there is to it, they were good enough to win last night.

He wasn't.

He is not a legitimate starting goalie, imo. of course those types will get exposed in the playoffs playing good teams night in night out. Not sold on him beyond this season. Leafs need to find a legitimate starter.

He had maybe one really bad game. He stole them a couple for sure.

He stole game 6 VS Tampa no question about it.

That was regular season Samsonov that's the guy they need.

He was good for the most part last night, the team in front was god awful. Only goal you can blame him for was the 4th goal and that's about it.

So the back breaker then.

Whatever point you tried to make you just failed.

I'd expect some regression to occur from his regular season numbers during the playoffs due to the heightened importance of the games on the grander stage (and fewer number of games overall?). As far as last night's game goes, I believe neither the goaltending (4 GA) nor the offence (2 GF) were truly good enough to win.

Regression is one thing, this is different this is falling off the map.

Let's not pretend that's not a part of it. Did you watch some of the atrocious performances in those TB games? The team was basically asleep for four straight games. Sammy didn't necessarily stand on his head until game 6, but he did enough to make a comeback even possible. And when push came to shove, he didn't allow the last goal, Vasi did. It could have been much worse.

And that's to much especially with a save% under 900
I find that SV% can be misleading at times. A goalie will have a SV% below .900 if he surrenders two goals on less than twenty shots (or three goals on less than thirty shots). Conversely, his SV% will be right at the .900 mark (or greater) if he yields four goals on forty (or more) shots. The latter scenario is more flattering to that particular number for the goalie while also providing a tougher hill to victory for his team to climb.

HE WON US GAME 6 .. ALL HAIL KING SAMMY .. he is a money tender now .. he slayed Vasi in round 1 and he will beat Bobbo too .. stats for tenders are even more useless than for players .. game 1 he played up to da 4th goal .. but game was over at that point .. we got out skated and out hustled for loose pucks all over ice .. then Brodie decided to sh*t da bed

He stole Game 3 and Game 6 against Tampa and more importantly, timely saves. There’s not much more you can ask from your goalie

He certainly stole game 6 no doubt about it.

That's the Samsonov we got all season.

This Samsonov is concerning

Watch the games.

Holl, Giordano, Brodie, and sometimes McCabe have been absolute tire fires.

Holl always is.

Outside of the second half of game 3 and game 6, he’s been mediocre to bad. I think his goals saved above expected is like -2 or something in 7 games.

I get why people are really quick to defend goalies, but he, along with our defense, needs to be better.

I would hate to be the tender of a team that just doesn't even try in front of me for 6 out of 7 playoff games. Then if you're the kind of person that reads reactions to your game have to listen to whining Toronto Maple Leafs fans complaining about how I am playing and ignoring the forward group and absent minded coaching.

May as well just pack it in with the level of inspiration coming from the rest of the team.
