Sweden is playing its own traditional brand of hockey and it isn't particularly effective at this level.

I wouldn't say too soft, although the game looked like a soccer match at times. Too fancy, maybe. Not enough spunk.

Some minor Canada vibes, it's like they're a little overconfident almost.

Just not good enough. Can’t step it up when teams are playing at their hardest.

In NHL terms they’d win their division every year and get trounced in the first or second round

It’s always been hard for Sweden to develop a…”killer instinct”, per se. Some had it - Forsberg, Zetterberg… I guess right now it’s basically Raymond?

That’s one. Also, the federation don’t have a good process when it comes to hiring coaches etc. I’ve been at those meetings myself (not a decision maker, couldn’t vote etc…). I still remember when they hired Garpenlöv, or when Monten was hired…ugh..

Also - it’s a kids tournament. It doesn’t matter much, and we’ve seen countless examples of players playing bad/good in it and great/less great players afterwards

Generalizing here, my theory is that the main reason is due to the natural Swedish mentality. It's very low maintenance. Not very fiery. Just very even-keeled. They need some crazier players who are more emotional. The Finns are somewhat similar in mentality, but have just enough psychos to knit it together well.

I personally hope to see more top prospects leave Sweden for college in the US, instead of getting stuck as a 13th forward and work on their defense so that their teams not getting relegated etc.

Go Ivar, go Viggo, go Frondell - explore!
Or then everyone go to Örnsköldsvik, there must be something different in the tap water or air.
