What's wrong with Matthew Tkachuk?

Not on the “worried” list yet. He’s shooting a completely unsustainable 4.4%. He scored 40 goals on 12.3% shooting which is actually under his career average of 12.6% - none of which are remarkable or difficult to match rates. He shoots his career average and he’s at a 36-37 goal and 82 point pace. And that’s with some just wonkiness early on here on a really misfiring Panthers PP and a really low percentage of secondary assists (23.5%) that an offensive fulcrum like Tkachuk usually will obtain.

Essentially, he’s mostly having a bad luck start combined with some poor team play. It will likely end up looking like a down year for him when all is said and done but under the hood there’s not much to be alarmed about and plenty of reasons things will start returning to elite levels on the box score in the near future.

Back-to-back 40 goal and 100 point seasons, on two different teams, is really impressive. Its not like last year was a one-off. He's too good not to get back to close to a 100 point pace the rest of the way. Hopefully he is healthy.

Doubt it will happen but how weird would it be if two players involved in the same blockbuster trade had the two biggest single season point drops in history.

Huberdeau smashed the record last year and if Tkachuk doesn't pick up his pace he could wind up 2nd.

He suffered a fairly significant injury during the playoffs. So it shouldn't be a surprise that he spent the summer recovering and not training. In fact, he might not even be entirely healthy still.

He’s not really scoring the crease banging tip in/rebound type of goals yet. He’s not really all the way back, it seems.

He is playing 1,5mins less per game, Florida is playing much more strutcured team defense and he is shooting at 4%. Doubt he is 100% yet.

I really doubt he’ll keep shooting at such a low percentage all season, and once he is back to full health his ice-time will also go up, which will bring up the pace atleast somewhat. Don’t think he’ll end up breaking 100 points again this season, but i’m guessing he’ll probably end up around PPG for the regular season.

His analytics are elite. the regression to the mean will eventually come. But no surprise who started this thread.
As far as HV threads go regarding the Panthers, I actually think this one is reasonable

Brought up statistics to support the question, which is fair for someone that isn't watching Panthers games regularly.

It’s weird how infatuated panthers fans are with reaves. Especially when most leaf fans would rather him not play.
It’s weird that you think we’re “obsessed,” we find him being there lumbering around hilarious.

Of course, so is the hope that Tkachuk won’t continue to be the elite player that he is.

I don’t think that at all. I know it. Your game day topics against the leafs have a half dozen mentions of Reaves in every single one of them. Feel free to check it out. I agree he’s irrelevant.

I mean he’s closer to a 100 point player than a 50-60 point one but you never know. 50-60 I guess is closer to his career average…

So, you don’t get the joke. And why do you know that? Lol.

It is due to earlier years as he grew into his game, but he’ll be fine. Rather he be slow now than May and June.

I took him in fantasy over players like Matthews and Mackinnon based on last season's production. That's what happened. He'll be better next year when I pass on him.
