I’m quite confident that if Pettersson had decided to take some time off after a stretch of poor play / injuries (so around March of last season let’s say) that the fans would be fully supportive.

It was only after a very poor playoff run and ~60 games over 9 months of poor play that most people really started to get fed up.

Which is why it’s a good thing that Miller didn’t just ignore whatever was going on and actually decided to take a step back now.

I think he will be back to his old self once he returns, whenever that is.

I’d rather him miss 20 games and come back himself than to play those 20 games when he’s not able to perform at his best. Because that would only frustrate him and the fans further.

Maybe the team learned from the fault with how they handled EP earlier.

with mental health issues, you need a trigger (nagging shoulder injury), then the brain takes over and the body suffers (stress from lack of restful sleep), and the worst thing is it spirals.

I think with all the advocacy we do with Hockey Talks over the years, the team and their players identify these situations with more clarity and will more likely take the advised actions to mitigating further setbacks. Some players are more susceptable and its pointless to compare it to Petey's although Im sure hes been screened too. you can tell the team is prepared for all the media firestorm with Province, Kuzma and PR etc out in full force today.

Not going to speculate, other than to say he’s not leaving the team because of some minor should injury. Whatever is going on is obviously serious enough to step away from the game.

On a personal level, most of us know someone who has gotten sick or something bad has happened to and it always puts things in perspective. It’s a game, it’s not life or death. Leave the guy alone in peace and move on.

As for the hockey side of it, a lot of teams do well up against the wall. With EP playing well maybe there’s something there. Boeser and Demko aren’t too far away either.

I trust Alvin though, if the team continues to be shit I doubt he’s going to sell the farm.

JT Miller has missed a total of 7 games since he became a Canuck in 2019. 7 games. True heart and soul player. If hes not playing, then it’s serious. Whatever it may be, i hope he gets the help he and or his family needs.

Exactly and my thoughts and sure that everyone else has JT Millers future first and foremost in mind.

From a Canucks standpoint this is horrible news and the season might slip away really quickly here.

Stack the first line with the best forwards, now let Pettersson seems to have worked himself out of that funk, let him cook with the primo offensive zone starts and Hughes minutes that Miller was getting before Boeser went down.

We know a line of Garland and Joshua can be excellent and that Suter can run the middle as well as Blueger did. That Sherwood-Blueger-Heinen line has shown itself to be a strong third line in the previous weeks as well.

also, this is just my personal impression... I doubt Miller keeps himself out very long. I hope he takes as long as he needs, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's back by that December 3rd game versus the Wild.

Having our 2 best forwards out sucks but just maintain a playoff spot until the 4 nations cup. Better for our best players to be out now rather than the 2nd half of the season. Make a serious push after the break to win the division and hopefully make a deep playoff run to the finals.
