What's wrong with Connor McDavid this season? Lowest PPG and GPG output in ~7-8 years for him

Scoring is down this season, he started the season with an injury and seems to be recently injured again. He had a period of 30 games in the middle of the season where he was scoring about 2 points per game again, so I’m not convinced he’s just past his prime just yet.

It has to happen sometime. I am not sure it is now for him because he definitely has another Art Ross in him but if he never gets another one then no big deal. He's already one of the best scorers in NHL history. But this is his 10th season as a pro, we have threads about this on Gretzky as we speak on the History board complaining about how he dropped at a certain age. When you are this good and you "drop" you are still possibly the best player in the NHL. And McDavid falls into this category. Wait for the playoffs.

Yup. He's the opposite of the leafs billionaires come play off time. Connors game goes up a level.
Marner and Matthews goes down a level......till October comes around.

McDavid needs 41 points in his last 21 games in order to hit 1100 points this season. Not impossible, but he needs to start putting up some multi point games in order to do it!

It might have something to do with mcdavid forcing long low percentage passes back to his dmen at the blue line while he’s at the half boards creating odd man situations that usually lead to a goal against.

Seriously his hockey iq took a beating this year. He’s forcing passes, not making the right decision with the puck in either end and worst of all he’s hesitating with the puck and killing chances by waiting to long until he’s at the goal line to get a shot off or just ends up passing it with no room.
 
Imo the Oilers club is just trying to get through the regular season and then will turn it on in the playoffs. McDavid has won all the individual awards. He’s proven his greatness. He needs a Cup to solidify his legacy. That’s his focus.
 
Its because Oilers PP is not sovereign this year. His 5v5 was never outstanding.

Funny how Drai playing with flops Arvidsson Skinner Kapanen and Podkolzin outperforms MCD playing with RNH and Hyman easily. MCD get mostly his points playing with Draisaitl
