None of these picks, and I guess you could say Tampa has been just fine

I think Bjorkstrand is a player. But Gourde is coming back from a major injury and plays older than his 33 years of age. If it was the Gourde of a few years ago - - yes, I'd be excited if I were Tampa. I agree on Tampa's "go for it" attitude. They are always competitive. I'm just not sure that this gets them over the hump. They'll go as far as Vasilevskiy takes them. An incredible goalie but he has a lot of wear and tear on that body with all the wars he's been through.

It's the way they get their points
Gourde - playoffs 42 points in 83 games
Wennberg - playoffs 19 points in 58 games
Understood, I'll consider the teams they played on when looking at those numbers as well.
Really understating my dollar store tag, when continuing to want to show my wrongness here

Not sure I consider that balls. Just smart enough to stop playing 96 and his agents game. 96 and his agent didn't give him much choice.

So we just never give him credit? That’s the definition of balls

His biggest mistake has been targeting the wrong players who are bad fits in Bednar’s system

Reactions: CobraAcesS
At the time, eveyone thought TB was crazy to do it.
I know that was the initial reaction, but he was also playing super well on some not good Hawks teams and came with a dirt cheap AAV. I think even without hindsight the Hagel deal really wasn’t too bad. The Jeannot deal was inexcusable though.

Lehkonen - Mack - Necas
Drouin - ROR - Nuke
Colton - Drury - Tuch
Kiviranta - Kelly - LOC

Drouin - Mack - Nuke
Lehkonen - Necas - Tuch
Colton - ROR - LOC
Kelly - Drury - Kiviranta

Either way that's a legit starting 12.

Lehkonen - Mack - Necas
Drouin - ROR - Nuke
Landeskog - Drury - Tuch
Colton - Kelly - LOC
Kiviranta

That's depth..

Bjorkstrand would have been a terrific addition for the Avs forward group, considering his forechecking, RHS, and goalscoring ability. Not to mention familiarity with Bednar. I'll reserve judgement on whether it was a missed opportunity though until I see what CMac actually does in the next couple of days.

It's basically a 1st + 2nd for Bjork, and a 1st for Gourde. The 1st for Gourde is probably where the overpay comes from, but we're essentially talking a 1st vs 2nd in value issues... Once you factor in the 75% retention and Tampa getting a 5th back it isn't bad at all.
And obviously Tampa and Cooper are familiar with Gourde and he'll be able to slot right back into their system
