“Resigned” instead of “re-signed” is a personal pet peeve.

I always find that one funny myself, especially when it could be both. - like next summer I guarantee there will be someone who says - Chara 'resigned' ... you're like - well, which one, did he retire or is he playing another year? Or 'Chara resigned to play in Boston another year.' - what is he really not happy and wants out?

Using analytics to try to prove a ridiculous point.

Last year it was Connor Carrick is showing all the signs of a top pairing D in the making. Meanwhile he was an all around tire fire.

Just the general idea that stats are useless and that you can know everything just by watching games. If stats clash with your opinion, 9 times out of 10 it's because you're wrong rather than the stats are wrong

Maybe people just don't understand the terminology here.

Elite = slightly above average
AINEC = coin toss
Corsi/advanced stats = I don't know but according to this
Generational = top line player
Negative value = not on the top of every GM's wish list
Underrated = He plays for my team so everyone better love him

That's a really broad topic though. In some cases I agree with you; but in a lot of cases a big problem is that people pull up stats that fit their narrative and emphasise it as if it determines more about the players ability than it does.

I think it's a big problem on HfBoards, especially since some stats get popular for awhile and everybody overuses it until the next stat get popular.

Yeah, understanding hockey is a multifaceted thing. You can't only focus on a small area and expect to have a full understanding of how things work.
Watching games is important but you have to recognize you are not infallible. You will miss things and make mistakes and that's why it's important to compensate for that by using advanced stats. To dismiss advanced stats (or wrongly promote them) based on your agenda is a problem

When some analytics fan suggests that it's ok, the team may be losing but they are losing the "right way."

There is no Corsi-Cup folks. Lots of ways to play this game.

If you're outshooting the team and losing by only one goal, it sure as hell bodes better for future success than to be doubled in shots and blown out.

Obviously it doesn't matter in a vacuum, but the whole point of analytics is to predict for the future, not for the present.

'Stat watcher' followed by 'watch the games' and both used by a poster who cheers for the players team and is likely anything but objective in watching that player.

McCurdy (2014) did a reliability test regarding various Corsi and Fenwick measures and their ability to predict wins.

Both measures peak for about 20 games and predict the results, at most, 18% of the time.
